Favorite set of slides from a recent course we taught, discussing nerve preservation and reconstruction during mastectomy. The goal is to maintain sensation and avoid pain.

A thoughtful team approach typically renders favorable outcomes. A delicate mastectomy with attention to nuances can help preserve nerves that don’t have to be severed, and leave the cut ones ready to be repaired. A lesser delicate approach makes it a harder fix.

Regenerate is an exploration of healing, resilience, and technology. Drawing from the experiences of nine women who have faced breast cancer, the work uses a series of photographs and generative AI‑assisted images that illuminate the often unseen mental journey of diagnosis, treatment, and physical recovery.

By way of art, the project aims to delicately surface the sensitivities surrounding breast cancer, while encouraging awareness and fundraising for lifesaving research in a truly unique manner.
