Start your day with a simple, effective pain-management routine from our hands-on team at Body Movement Physiotherapy. 🌅 We recommend: 1) Gentle morning movement — light stretches and breath work to wake your body. 2) Manual therapy touchpoints — self-massage or guided release where tension gathers. 3) Pacing strategies — break tasks into short, manageable segments and build up gradually. 4) Red flags — if pain spikes, becomes numb, or limits daily tasks, it’s time to escalate to in-clinic advanced care. We’re here to personalize each step with Dr. Christina Auriti’s holistic approach, so consistent, guided strategies lead to better outcomes. Dealing with persistent neck or lower back pain from a herniated disc? 🌟 Discover how cervical and lumbar traction could offer the relief you’ve been searching for!

This specialized therapy gently stretches your spine, creating extra space between vertebrae. The result? Less pressure on nerves, reduced pain, tingling, and numbness, and looser muscles—so you can enjoy greater freedom of movement.

How does it work? By easing the pressure on compressed nerves and encouraging herniated discs to move back into place, traction directly addresses the source of your pain and supports better mobility.

Safety first: Traction is a well-established, safe technique when performed by licensed physical therapists. Your treatment will always be tailored to your needs, ensuring comfort and effectiveness every step of the way.

Are you a candidate? If nerve pain from a herniated or bulging disc in your neck or lower back is holding you back, traction therapy could be the solution you need.

Many find noticeable relief and improved motion after just one session!

🔥 Lateral Resisted Side Steps 🔥

Don’t underestimate this one 👀

This simple banded exercise is a powerhouse for:
✔️ Glute med activation (hip stability!)
✔️ Knee alignment & injury prevention
✔️ Pelvic control & balance
✔️ Improving walking & functional movement

By stepping side-to-side against resistance, you’re training your body to stay strong and stable in everyday movements—especially important for runners, athletes, and anyone dealing with knee or hip pain.

👉 Keep tension on the band
👉 Stay low with a slight bend in your knees
👉 Control each step (no snapping!)

Small steps. Big results 💥

Balance is more than just standing on one leg.

Here our patient performs single-leg balance while the opposite leg performs resisted hip extension with a band. This challenges the body to stabilize while moving.

Your balance depends on three systems working together:
• Proprioception (body awareness)
• Vestibular system (inner ear balance)
• Vision

By adding movement to the opposite leg, the stance leg, hips, and core must work harder while the brain processes balance information. This improves stability, proprioception, and neuromuscular control.

Great for injury prevention, coordination, and overall balance training.

💪Manual resisted exercise is a powerful tool in physical therapy—especially for the elderly or weaker populations. 💪

Unlike machines or heavy weights, manual resistance allows the therapist to control the exact amount of force applied, matching the patient’s strength level in real time. This makes the exercise safe, adaptable, and highly personalized. This approach helps to:

✅ Improve muscle activation and strength
✅ Enhance neuromuscular control and coordination
✅ Allow for gradual progression without overloading joints
✅ Build confidence with movement
✅ Reduce the risk of falls and functional decline.

Fire hydrants may look simple… but they’re one of the best exercises for hip stability. 🔥

This exercise targets the gluteus medius and gluteus maximus, two key muscles responsible for pelvic stability, hip strength, and proper movement mechanics.

When these muscles are weak, we often see:
• Knee collapse during squats or walking
• Hip drop (Trendelenburg)
• Low back or knee pain

By performing fire hydrants, you help:
✅ Strengthen the hip abductors
✅ Improve pelvic control and stability
✅ Support knee alignment
✅ Reduce strain on the lower back and hips

The key is slow, controlled movement while keeping your core engaged and pelvis steady — no rocking!

Small exercise, big benefits for hip strength and injury prevention.
