In space, astronauts lose up to 1–2% of their bone density per month because, without gravity, the body no longer needs to maintain strong bones. Here on Earth, gravity is constant, but how we meet it makes all the difference.

This illustration shows how a swayed stance can create excessive tension, while a slumped stance leads to collapse and strain. Only a healthy posture allows the bones and muscles to align for optimal weight-bearing and a naturally tall, supported spine.

Bones stay strong when they are properly loaded. When your posture is aligned, weight is distributed efficiently, and your muscles support you without unnecessary strain. But when alignment is off, compression builds, support structures weaken, and over time, this can lead to pain and degeneration.

Gravity isn’t the problem; misalignment is. Learning to work with gravity, not against it, is key to building a strong, resilient spine.

Spring is a season of renewal, not just for our homes but for our habits, too.

Everyday household tasks offer a fresh opportunity to move better and feel better. Instead of rushing through them, try approaching these moments as posture puzzles, posture practice, or even posture exploration. When we bring awareness to how we bend, reach, sweep, or lift, our “life exercises” become both more enjoyable and more beneficial.

What can space teach us about your spine?

On April 12, 1961, the first human journeyed into space, forever changing how we understand the human body. Today, as space exploration makes headlines again, we’re reflecting on a powerful truth:

Your spine is designed to work with gravity, not without it.

In weightlessness, astronauts can lose up to 1–2% of bone density per month. Their spines lengthen, but at a cost; muscles weaken, discs expand, and back pain becomes common.

Back here on Earth, we face a different challenge: Too much compression. Too little support. Not enough recovery.

Your body already has the tools to restore and protect your spine, if you know how to use them! You don’t need zero gravity—you just need the right habits.

Give your spine the space it needs, right here on Earth.

Hunting for Easter eggs? Don’t hurt your back! 🐰🥚

Spring is here, and with it comes the joy of Easter egg hunts… and a lot of bending!

Instead of rounding your back or tucking your pelvis, try bending with a hip-hinge just like this little egg hunter. Keeping a straight back and hinging at the hips protects your spine and makes bending safer (and more elegant!).

For weightlifter Susan Gerhard, this shift became part of a much bigger journey. After struggling with back pain that threatened her training, she learned a new way to support her body.

Instead of yanking her shoulders back to “look” upright, Susan learned to gently realign using her inner corset, letting the core support the spine like a coat rack holding a jacket.

The result? Her back no longer had to do all the work. Her core could do the heavy lifting.

This change helped her return to lifting and eventually step onto the podium. 🥇
