Day 463: Couldn’t wait to update. already such an amazing day! We just finished up Audrey’s workout at The 34 Project. It was spectacular to say the least. We are so thankful for her Therapist, Pam, who works diligently and tirelessly on the things most beneficial for Audrey.

Today Audrey rode the FES bike ( which of course is her favorite) got her strapped in and very quickly she was doing 52 miles per hour. She loves a challenge! We stopped to readjust her legs for more of a stretch and she finished out averaging 45 mph.

We got her on the stander/sitting chair and therapist worked on her figure eights, her balance, centering and having her shift weight from side to side and holding herself up on her elbows.

Audrey then got to stand three different times and getting to experience bearing weight on feet. This is sometimes very challenging given her right leg is still contracted but she was able to accomplish getting both legs fairly straight and both feet (or toes) planted on the floor.

I believe that being in the gym is her happy place. She’s so comfortable in this environment and specifically around others with similar challenges.

In Audrey’s blessings list this is definitely one of Audrey’s biggest blessings!

2 Corinthians 9:8: "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work"

As I’ve said before Audrey is starting to use her right arm more and more. Today she not only fist bumped Pam but as we were leaving gym she raised her arm and loosened her figure trying to wave bye to several people. praise Jesus!

Day 462: Every so often I go back to the verse we claimed for Audrey at the beginning of her journey. Isaiah 41:10

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand"

Even during some of the challenging parts of Audrey’s journey we see how He has been with her ALWAYS! We continue to cling to this verse and especially to the Lord Jesus our God who provided Audrey this great comfort. Even through this period with the muscle spasms in her leg, we are comforted in knowing that the Lord will also take care of this and help her through it.

Please continue to pray that these will soon subside.

FYI: Muscle spasms (spasticity) in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) patients are involuntary muscle contractions causing stiffness, tightness, and pain, resulting from disrupted brain-to-muscle signals. Common in severe TBIs, they affect mobility, function, and comfort. Management includes physical therapy, medications (baclofen), botulinum toxin injections, and sometimes surgery.

She currently takes baclofen, has had Botox injections and will receive more this month and we continue with Pt at home and with outpatient pt. ( the one thing we are trying to avoid is surgery)

In spite of her muscle spasms she still responds well and continues to make improvements.

After her shower time today, we worked on her sitting up and her balance. She was able to hold on to her side rail of bed for additional support while working on her balance. The movement in her right arm continues to get better daily and she’s moving it up higher every day. Today she lifted her arm up on her own high enough to give me a high five, with palm open and fingers unclenched. We did figure eight exercise on her legs, head and feet. Did fifteen minute session on vibration plate and a few minutes on the manual pedal exerciser.

She was also able to be fed some applesauce with cinnamon and took it in and swallowed with no problems. We did intermittent crushed ice between bites and again she took it in chomped on the ice and swallowed. We are careful not to do too much at one time but what she was able to take in and swallow today was a huge mile marker for her. Again we PTL for all he is doing within her.

We also used weights on her legs today, just another new thing we are introducing at home. We will also be using on her wrist too.

Day 461: Audrey had a great workout at The 34 Project! She did her best yet on the bike, cycling 20 minutes and doing 3.22 miles! She’s rocking this cycling!!! Her therapist increased the resistance and it didn’t slow her down any.
She worked more on her balance and finding her center. Did some more figure eights and this time did similar technique in her legs.

Her therapist also did some stretches on shoulders and arms. She continues to use her right arm more and more. She even tried to reach out and give me a hug today!

Lately Audrey has been having muscle spasms in her legs and at times it may seem she’s a bit angry and lashing out at us. Please pray that this phase passes quickly. As always we are diligent about keeping her safe and we too must stay safe as well.

Psalm 121:7-8 (NIV): "The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore"

Please make the muscle spams in her legs to subside and that she regain control of her movement.

Day 459: Happy Easter!

1 Peter 1:3
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Usually Audrey’s day to sleep and rest But she got to spend the day with some of her family, especially her little cousins! She did well and was giving out fist bumps to several! Glad others are getting to see and experience some of her improvements.

Day 457: After 2 extremely busy days and workouts, Audrey was not in the most cooperative mood. I suppose we all have these sort of days. We can only guess at what she may be thinking or feeling. But even on our worse days there are things that need to get done and this afternoon was shower time. Afterwards I was able to get her to sit up in her bed and work on her balance. She managed to do so at least 4 times. We chilled for a little while and ate cotton candy and some ice chips. All of which with little to no assistance she was able to get her mouth open each time! Her chewing motions are steadily getting better.

Philippians 4:11-13: "...for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty..."

Pray that she rest well tonight and for all areas for:

Day 456: Back to The 34 Project and a great workout today. Audrey did 22 minutes on the FES Bike for a total of 3.5 miles. She keeps breaking her best record! Go Audrey!!

Today she experienced another first, while working with her therapist on the table doing stretches, she had slid down some on the table and she used her feet and legs to push herself back up in position!

We get so excited as we get to witness all these events and see how she’s continuing to connect the dots and figure out what she can do. It is absolutely amazing! We continue to praise the Lord for healing our girl!

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

Day 455:   It’s been a few days since we update.  Please know all is well!  There just been a lot going on in the family...

Day 455: It’s been a few days since we update. Please know all is well! There just been a lot going on in the family and it’s been busy busy busy! However Audrey is doing well and she continues daily in making small strides. She continues working on her balance while sitting, moving her arm, etc…

Today was a day packed full of therapies and appointments. She was out the door and on the road by 8:30am. She had another swallow test at OU at 10, then over to The 34 project for workout and then back to Ou this afternoon for CT scan with contrast. Busy yes, her best day not so much but she gave it her best shot!

Side note: the cutest and most surprising event was when she spontaneously busted out a laugh ( brief but definitely a laugh) when she heard her speech pathologist mispronounce the name of one of her favorite vocal artist, Billie Eilish! She had a tee shirt on that had Billie’s name on it and the pathologist saw it and pronounce the last name wrong. It was evidently quite funny to Audrey and other than shocking to us it was the first time we’d heard a laugh! Praise Jesus!

Day 451: Daily Audrey meets the challenge of re-learning the simplest of things and yet everything re-learned is a huge step in her journey of recovery.

Proverbs 4:13: "Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life"

Salina has been working diligently with her on movement in her arms and hands and today she raised her arm and hand several times to wipe her mouth.

FYI: Drooling in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) patients is generally caused by neuromuscular dysfunction, poor oral motor control, or impaired swallowing, rather than overproduction of saliva.

She continues to work on her swallowing as well and is getting better.

Day 450:

Proverbs 27:17: "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

Audrey had another good day of physical therapy with Allie. We are so thankful for how far she’s come and equally grateful for all the Therapist in her life that have helped her along the way. Her balance is getting better daily. Today with Allie she was able to sit and hold herself up for a full minute!!! ( No I didn’t get that picture, we just watched in amazement) You may not think that’s a big deal but let me tell you IT IS HUGE. She’s able to correct herself and shift her weight in order to stay balanced. She’s figured out that when she’s sitting on the edge of the raised mat she can use her feet on the floor to help balance herself. This was a first, that we witnessed today and we were amazed!

FYI: Sitting and balancing requires significant, constant, and highly automated brain power, despite the sensation of doing "nothing." The brain consumes roughly 20% of the body’s total oxygen and energy (approx. 12-15 watts or ~260 calories per day) just to maintain resting metabolism, which includes postural control, sensory processing, and maintaining awareness.

Returning home we tried to get her to rest, but even times when she is in bed she still wants to work!!! Finally we gave in and she kept sitting herself up with little assistance. She was able to sit and balance herself sitting in bed for 2 minutes!!! (I timed it)

This girl just doesn’t want to stop! PTL

Day 449:

Great and challenging day at The 34 Project! We love how her therapist pushes her and we love how Audrey rolls with the challenges. No matter how uncomfortable it has to be for her she always does exceptional! One new thing they introduce near the end of her session was she was hooked up to equipment that helped stretch out her extremities. I’m not sure what it’s called but I’m including some pics.

She also rode the bike, got on the tilt table, vibration plate, did some of the figure eight exercises, she had quite the workout. Even with all that she gets home and she wants to continue working!!!! She’s one determine girl!

She’s finally gave it up and rested til she fell asleep.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.

Day 448: Today our girl made up for her busy day and took the day for much needed rest and refreshing. Tomorrow she’ll return to the 34 Project for another workout. Good Sleep is so important.

FYI: Why Sleep is Crucial for TBI:

Brain Healing: Sleep clears toxins and repairs neural pathways damaged during the injury.

Cognitive Function: Proper sleep helps improve memory, attention, and mental clarity.

Mood Regulation: Adequate rest helps manage emotional volatility, depression, and anxiety that often follow a TBI.

Day 447: Today was the start of Audreys third week at The 34 project.
We met a new friend and TBI survivor, Chris, today and visiting with his Mom brought a renewed sense of encouragement. We already know how hard Audrey works, and we are seeing improvement, but to be able to visit with someone who goes through something similar and to hear reports of their progress is such a tremendous blessing.

Again she worked so hard, one of her favorite things of course is the FSE bike and true to form Audrey stayed right on track. The man next to us that was riding his bike expressed his jealously in how smooth Audrey’s legs worked while pedaling!!!

Therapist had her on the tilt table and work various muscle groups, but par for the course Audrey had her own idea of what she wanted to do next.

Workout was really really good and therapist is working hard to help Audrey find her center. She
used 3 lb. weights on her wrist during all of her workout except while riding bike. She also engaged Audrey in the ball game with doing the figure eight motions, as well as doing manual figure eight motion in her body and on her head.

FYI: Neurological Integration: The figure-eight (or Lazy 8) pattern forces the brain's left and right hemispheres to work together. This promotes better communication within the brain, which is often disrupted after a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Our girl worked so hard during her session, and we couldn’t be prouder. Thank you Lord Jesus, we will give you all praise and glory! We will also continue to celebrate every small thing she is able to accomplish and give her lots of praise for doing so!!

Ecclesiastes 3:13 “And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God." -

Ultimately, this scripture serves as a reminder to appreciate the simple pleasures in life as well as your hard work and to recognize them as gifts from a loving and generous God.
