Help Expand Accessible Transportation for Voting in Brown County

The Disability Vote Coalition is conducting a Rides to the Polls survey, and we wanted to be sure this reaches the right people.

This effort helps ensure people with disabilities and older adults can access reliable transportation for voting and voting-related activities.

Reliable transportation can be the difference between missing care — and accessing it.

Living in a rural area, Anthony often missed doctor appointments when rides canceled or didn’t show up. Options worked with him to explore accessible vehicle options, needed modifications, and the possibility of learning to drive.

Sometimes, the right support can open doors to greater independence.

“You guys were a godsend to us.”

When injuries happen unexpectedly, life doesn’t pause.

One family recently shared how a sudden injury and surgery created an urgent need for adaptive equipment before their loved one could safely return home. While the disability was temporary, the impact was life-changing — and the need for support was immediate.

Through Options’ Loan Equipment Network (LEND), they were able to access the adaptive equipment they needed during that critical time.

Stories like this remind us why LEND exists:
to ensure people have access when they need it most — whether the need is temporary or long term.

Today we honor Ed Roberts — the Father of the Independent Living Movement.

Ed believed that people with disabilities deserve choice, dignity, and control over their own lives. When others placed limits on him, he chose advocacy instead.

Today, Independent Living Centers across the country — including Options — carry forward his vision. Wisconsin is home to eight ILCs, all rooted in Ed’s original work.

His advocacy helped shape accessibility we rely on every day — from curb cuts and accessible transportation to inclusive education and disability rights laws.

Thank you, Ed, for reminding us why this mission matters.
