This season can feel
grateful and heavy
at the same time. 🍂💛

For many individuals and families,
Thanksgiving brings mixed emotions.
A full house doesn’t always mean
a full heart — and that’s okay.

➜ You’re allowed to set boundaries
➜ You’re allowed to step away
➜ You’re allowed to feel differently

Holidays can bring pressure,
sensory overload, old wounds,
and expectations that feel heavy.
Your feelings remain valid,
no matter what the day looks like.

You deserve a holiday
that supports your well-being
— not one that drains it.

Take a moment to breathe
and check in with yourself today.

Cold rain didn’t stop community care. 🤍🦃

This past Saturday, 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗿𝘆 joined the Test for a Turkey community outreach event at Marlow Heights Shopping Center — and despite the cold, rainy weather, the turnout was amazing.

➜ Nearly 200 people came out to get tested and receive a FREE turkey. 🦃

➜ Representing FFCP were 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗟𝗖𝗦𝗪-𝗖, 𝗖𝗼-𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 & 𝗖𝗠𝗢, and 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘄 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝗸, 𝗟𝗚𝗣𝗖, showing up with warmth, compassion, and support for Temple Hills families.

➜ Events like this remind us that mental health and community care go hand in hand. When basic needs are supported, emotional wellness grows. ♻️

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and community partners who made this possible.

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all—especially for kids and teens. 💛

Understanding how therapy differs across age groups helps caregivers know what to expect and how to support their child’s journey.

Here’s a simple breakdown of what makes therapy unique for each age:

Therapy for Kids:
➜ Uses play, art, and movement to express emotions
➜ Helps build early emotional regulation skills ♻️
➜ Includes high parental involvement to support progress
➜ Focuses on social skills, routines, transitions, and safety

Therapy for Teens:
➜ Relies on conversational, relatable talk therapy
➜ Introduces structured approaches like CBT and coping tools
➜ Builds trust while respecting a teen’s privacy
➜ Supports identity, confidence, peer dynamics, and stress management

Every age needs something different — and that’s okay. The goal is always the same: helping young people feel seen, supported, and understood. 💛

If you’d like guidance on whether therapy may help your child or teen, our team is here to support you.

Empowering our community starts with showing up. 💛

Families First’s very own 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘄 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝗸, 𝗟𝗚𝗣𝗖, had the chance to attend the 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁: 𝗨𝗻𝗽𝗹𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗱 this past Friday, November 15th.

This event brought together students, families, and mental health professionals to explore how to:
➜ Unplug from negative influences
➜ Plug into positive energy sources
➜ Strengthen emotional wellness through community support

With 20+ community organizations, interactive sessions, and evidence-informed tools, the summit provided practical ways for teens and adults to build resilience and advocate for their well-being. ♻️

We’re grateful to be part of a community committed to creating safe, supportive spaces for growth. 💛

Are you burned out or depressed? Here’s the difference.
It’s easy to confuse the two — especially when life feels overwhelming, responsibilities keep piling up, and you’re trying to hold everything together.

But understanding the difference matters.
It helps you know what support you need… and how to take the next step toward feeling better again. 💛

Here’s a quick breakdown you can use anytime you’re unsure ↓

🧠 Burnout Signs (Often Work or Stress-Related)

• Exhaustion from ongoing stress
• Feeling emotionally drained
• Reduced motivation or creativity
• Irritability toward tasks or people
• Relief comes with rest or time off

🖤 Depression Signs (Affects Mood, Energy & Daily Life)

• Persistent sadness or emptiness
• Loss of interest in things once enjoyed
• Sleep or appetite changes
• Feeling hopeless or numb
• Doesn’t go away with rest or vacation

If you’re noticing yourself in either list — you’re not alone.
Both burnout and depression are valid, real, and treatable with the right support.
Talking to a mental health professional can help you understand what’s going on beneath the surface and what to do next. 🧠✨

Today, we honor the courage of those
who served — and those still fighting
silent battles every day. 🇺🇸

For many veterans, returning home doesn’t mean the struggle ends.

PTSD, depression, and trauma can follow long after the uniform is folded away.

This Veterans Day, let’s do more than say thank you.
Let’s make sure our heroes get the care and understanding they deserve.

If you or someone you know is a veteran who needs mental health support, our doors and hearts are open. 💙

Baltimore is still facing a serious overdose crisis — and the numbers show it’s not slowing down.
But the story behind those numbers is even more important. 💚

Here’s what current data reveals:
• Overdose deaths in Baltimore remain high
• Fentanyl is now involved in the majority of fatalities
• Substance use and mental health struggles are deeply connected
• Trauma, stress, and lack of access to care increase risk — not personal “failure”

What actually helps?
✅ Harm-reduction (like naloxone access & safe-use education)
✅ Trauma-informed support
✅ Integrated mental health + substance use treatment
✅ Non-judgmental crisis response

Because research is clear:
Shame doesn’t save lives — support does.

At FFCP, we believe in compassionate, evidence-based care. If you or someone you love is struggling, you’re not alone — and help exists. 💚

Baltimore’s mental health needs are rising — and for many families, the struggle begins early.

Recent local data shows:
✅ More children, teens, and adults are experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma
⚠️ Access to mental health care still varies greatly across neighborhoods
💔 Trauma, community violence, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) continue to affect long-term emotional health
🔗 Overdose risks and untreated mental health concerns often go hand-in-hand

But the good news?
Baltimore is responding. Crisis services are expanding, trauma-informed care is growing, and more community-based resources are becoming available.

At Family First Counseling & Psychiatry, we’re committed to providing compassionate, culturally responsive, and family-centered mental health care for Baltimore residents — because healing should be accessible for every family, not just some.

💚 You’re not alone — and support exists.
