⭐ If TNSTEP has made a difference in your life, personally or professionally, we could use your help.

Will you take a moment to contact your State Representative and ask them to support state funding that would allow TNSTEP to expand services and reach more families across Tennessee?

For the past year, we’ve been working with leaders across Tennessee — from the Governor’s office to the General Assembly — to raise awareness about the growing need for parent training and support in special education.

With more than 195,000 Tennessee students receiving early childhood and special education services, families need access to clear information, training, and support now more than ever.

A House Appropriations Amendment ( #224) has been filed by Representative David Hawk (a BIG deal for us), and it takes just three simple steps to contact your representative to ask for their support.

We all rely on people we trust when making important decisions. Whether it’s choosing a job, deciding where to live, or navigating healthcare or education options, most of us talk things through with people who know us well before making a choice.

Supported Decision-Making builds on that same idea. It allows individuals with disabilities to make decisions with guidance from trusted supporters who can help gather information, explain options, talk through possible outcomes, and communicate choices when needed.

This SPED PEC Parent Training hosted by Knox County Schools and presented by TNSTEP's Joey Ellis will introduce the basics of Supported Decision-Making, explain how it works in real life, and share how families and professionals can use it to help individuals with disabilities participate more fully in decisions that affect their lives.

TNSTEP had a wonderful time at Tennessee Disability Coalition’s Disability Day on the Hill, connecting with old friends and meeting new ones. There’s something incredibly powerful about the energy in the room when advocates come together to lift up shared priorities.

We met with many state leaders to highlight the critical role support services play for families of children with disabilities, including parent training in special education. We are grateful for the conversations, the collaboration, and the momentum.
