🚨 Support Needed This Week: State funding to expand TNSTEP staff and support services to families of children with disabilities in Tennessee schools is within reach—but we need your help to make it happen.

We’re excited to share a major update: we now have an Appropriations Amendment (SA221) in the Senate as well as the House (HA224)!

If you live in Tennessee and have 3 minutes to spare, please email or call your State Representative and State Senator and ask them to support this important funding.

Use this link to quickly find your legislators and access a short email template you can copy, paste, and personalize:

We are deeply grateful to Tennessee Senator Becky Massey, Dawn White, Mark Pody, State Senator London Lamar, State Senator Rusty Crowe, State Senator Richard Briggs and Tom Hatcher District 2 for co‑sponsoring SA221 in the Senate--and to Representative David Hawk for leading this effort in the House with HA224!

Thank you for standing with TNSTEP and helping make this funding a reality.

TNSTEP’s Joey Ellis will cover parents’ rights and responsibilities under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), the process and timelines for eligibility and evaluations for receiving special education and related services, and how to prepare for productive IEP meetings at school (spoiler: parents are required members of the school team, and TNSTEP is here to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to play your important role). This is an information-packed training, so bring your notepad and questions!

This is an adults-only training.

ONLINE 👉TOMORROW - We all rely on people we trust when making important decisions. Whether it’s choosing a job, deciding where to live, or navigating healthcare or education options, most of us talk things through with people who know us well before making a choice.

Supported Decision-Making builds on that same idea. It allows individuals with disabilities to make decisions with guidance from trusted supporters who can help gather information, explain options, talk through possible outcomes, and communicate choices when needed.

This SPED PEC Parent Training hosted by Knox County Schools and presented by TNSTEP's Joey Ellis will introduce the basics of Supported Decision-Making, explain how it works in real life, and share how families and professionals can use it to help individuals with disabilities participate more fully in decisions that affect their lives.

Yesterday, Representative David Hawk (Greeneville) formally requested state funding to expand TNSTEP’s statewide services. Now we need your help to keep that momentum going.

Will you take 2–3 minutes to email your State Representative and ask them to support HA224?

This funding would expand TNSTEP’s support for families navigating early childhood, special education, and related services in schools across Tennessee.

We've made it easy:
👉 Enter your address to find your representative
👉 Copy/paste a message into an email
👉 Hit send

If TNSTEP has impacted your family or organization, we’d love for you to share that in your message.

We are so grateful for the support you continue to show our work and the families we serve. ❤️

⭐ If TNSTEP has made a difference in your life, personally or professionally, we could use your help.

Will you take a moment to contact your State Representative and ask them to support state funding that would allow TNSTEP to expand services and reach more families across Tennessee?

For the past year, we’ve been working with leaders across Tennessee — from the Governor’s office to the General Assembly — to raise awareness about the growing need for parent training and support in special education.

With more than 195,000 Tennessee students receiving early childhood and special education services, families need access to clear information, training, and support now more than ever.

A House Appropriations Amendment ( #224) has been filed by Representative David Hawk (a BIG deal for us), and it takes just three simple steps to contact your representative to ask for their support.
