"WHOEVER TRULY WISHES TO HEAL MAN MUST SEE HIM IN HIS WHOLENESS AND MUST KNOW THAT HIS ULTIMATE HEALING CAN ONLY BE GOD'S LOVE." - POPE BENEDICT XVI

Living Waters Counseling Center is dedicated to the healing of the whole individual. Wholeness is in the four quadrants of our being human: the intellectual (cognitive behavioral therapy, insight oriented, goal oriented) ; the emotional (EMDR, inner child work, theophostics); the body (somaticization); and the spirit (prayer). Physical development begins in utero and declines as a person ages. Emotional development begins at 6 months and it sets the background for how a person deals in relationships. Intellectual development, the use of reason, typically begins at 6 years old and continues throughout one's life. The purpose of the intellect is for survival and the use of good judgment. Spiritual development becomes more prominent in adolescence. The inability to develop this quadrant leads to lack of fulfillment, confusion and emptiness. The development of it leads to true wisdom and a sense of peace. In the therapeutic community, more and more counselors recognize that purely using the scientific and clinical approach without the spiritual has a poor outcome. At Living Waters Counseling Center, the therapist uses their counseling skills but also includes a strong spiritual component, much like the 12 Step Programs. No lasting or deep healing can occur without a combination of all four quadrants. Never Go Thirsty is a 501-c3 Non-for Profit arm of Living Waters Counseling Center which provides the healing water of counseling, prayer, and love to flow through the people whose lives are being touched by the staff. It is an integrated approach to healing using the concepts of mind and spirit rooted in faithful prayer. NGT was established to assist Living Waters Counseling Center with supplemental funding through grants, donations and fundraising in order to provide faith based counseling and support to adults, children, couples and families who are abused, traumatized, suffering from addictions and dealing with the full range of the the human experience. These people do not typically have access to these services due to lack of financial resources. NGT helps make counseling services accessible to all those in need regardless of their income.

We live in a world of constant input, where silence feels uncomfortable and the mind keeps searching for the next small hit of stimulation. Learning to sit with stillness again can help restore clarity, focus, and a sense of calm.

Lord of the Living Water:

Lord of the living water,
I come to you to drink deeply
of your mercy and your love.

Transform my parched earthiness
into a sparkling spring,
spilling into the lives of others
to refresh them with the promise
of your gifts.

Let it shimmer to delight us,
reviving our strength,
leaving us to yearn for its source.

Let it flood the land with richness
and beauty, O Lord of the living water.

May my thirst for you
never diminish but, in growing,
lead others to you.

Amen

Family shapes who we are. When someone struggles with substance addiction, the impact reaches far beyond the individual. Relationships can become strained, trust may weaken, and loved ones often carry quiet stress and worry. Healing often begins when families recognize they are not alone and that support can help restore connection and stability.

We are living in a world where silence feels uncomfortable and comparison feels constant. Phone use can quietly turn into a way of measuring ourselves against unrealistic standards and avoiding the discomfort we do not want to face. When scrolling becomes a coping strategy, the real issues remain untouched.

Learning to sit with boredom, anxiety, or loneliness without immediately reaching for a screen can be a powerful first step toward healthier habits and deeper self awareness.

Recovery is possible.

Even with genetic risk. Even after years of struggle. Even after relapse.

Sobriety is lived one day at a time. It takes courage, accountability, support, and for many, faith. Healing is not easy, but people are doing it every single day.

The Serenity Prayer reminds us that peace begins with accepting what we cannot change, finding courage to change what we can, and seeking wisdom to know the difference.

There is hope.

Is alcoholism inherited, learned, or both?

Genetics can increase risk, but environment and what we see growing up also play a powerful role. Inherited risk may set the stage, but learned behavior often pulls the trigger.

Understanding this replaces shame with clarity and opens the door to change.

Life can be beautiful and it can also be overwhelming. Loss, trauma, stress, or sudden change can affect anyone, even those who are usually strong and resilient.

You are not weak and you are not alone.

Having a plan in place can help during difficult moments. Writing down trusted contacts, crisis resources, and simple coping strategies can make it easier to feel supported when distress is high.

Sleep deprivation affects millions of adults and can take a serious toll on mental health. Stress, long work hours, and poor sleep habits can disrupt rest and create a cycle where exhaustion leads to more anxiety, making sleep even harder to achieve. Over time, this cycle can contribute to ongoing sleep difficulties like insomnia.
