Massage Therapy is passive exercise

Following a healthy path of living requires loving the magic you were born with.

Your body needs a balance of varied movement and rest. With too little exercise that leads to restriction of proper range of motion, or overuse syndrome that painfully can lead to the same limits, massage can help open the blockages to regain optimum health.

"May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift... "

Muscle(s) of the Week: The Peroneus longus and brevis:

The peroneus longus and brevis muscles (also known as the fibularis longus and brevis) are located in the lateral compartment of the lower leg. The peroneus longus arises from the proximal two-thirds of the fibula bone (and partly from the intermuscular septum). It inserts onto the medial cuneiform and the base of the first metatarsal on the (bottom) plantar surface of the foot. The peroneus longus acts to plantar flex the ankle joint and evert the subtalar joint, thus pronating the foot. It is also an important stabilizer of the transverse foot arch.

The peroneus brevis originates from lower lateral surface of the fibula and the intermuscular septum and inserts onto the base of the fifth metatarsal. It is a synergist of ankle plantar flexion and also everts (pronates) the subtalar joint.

Poses like Trikonasana dorsiflex the ankle and invert (supinate) the subtalar joint (as shown here), thus lengthening the peroneus longus and brevis. What other poses act to lengthen these muscles? And in what poses would you contract the peroneus muscles.

Sweetened beverages, whether sweetened with sugar, HFCS, naturally-occurring fructose, or artificial sweeteners, are among the worst culprits causing obesity and related health problems, including diabetes and heart and liver disease, just to name a few. Remember that sweetened beverages also include flavored milk products, bottled teas, and "enhanced" water products. I'd be leery of anything listing "artificial flavors" as well—especially if the products boasts being low in sugar.
