Today is Fentanyl Awareness Day ๐
This day is about care, connection, and keeping each other safe. Fentanyl is showing up in many substances right now, and having this knowledge can save lives.
๐ฅ This video shares important information on:
โข How to identify an opioid overdose
โข How fentanyl test strips can be used (and their limits)
โข How naloxone (Narcan) works to reverse an overdose
Here are 3 signs of a possible opioid overdose:
โข Slow or no breathing โ little to no chest movement or breath
โข Unresponsiveness โ calling their name or a firm โtrap pinchโ may not get a response
โข Pinpoint pupils โ very small pupils that donโt react normally to light
If you think someone may be overdosing:
โข Call 911 right away (many places have Good Samaritan laws to help protect you)
โข Give naloxone (Narcan) if you have it
โข Stay with them until help arrivesโyou being there matters
Ways to reduce risk and care for yourself and others:
โข Carry naloxone if you can
โข Try not to use alone when possible (you can call the Never Use Alone Hotline: 800-484-3731)
โข Test substances for fentanyl when available (while remembering test strips arenโt perfect)
โข Go slow, especially with new or unfamiliar substances
Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and support. Sharing this information is one way we look out for each other. ๐
