The American Heart Association created "Life's Essential 8" which are the key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health, as defined by the American Heart Association. Better cardiovascular health helps lower the risk for heart disease, stroke and other major health problems.

Number 2 - Being More Active
Exercise is like a workout for your heart and brain. Getting active, even just going outside for a walk, can help you feel better. It can reduce stress, improve your mood and help you feel recharged. Adults should get a weekly total of at least: 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise OR 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity spread throughout the week

If you see her, please congratulate Betty P for becoming GPT's patient of the month for February!

Here's what Liv has to say: "Betty always brings laughs and good energy to the clinic when she comes in! She's likely to know and remember you or someone from your family from years ago. She consistently works hard and shows up rain or shine, even if we have to call and tell her the roads are clear."

As heart disease remains the leading cause of death and disability globally, Greensboro Physical Therapy is highlighting the essential role of physical therapy in proactive heart health management. While traditionally associated with injury recovery, physical therapists are increasingly recognized as partners in helping the general population safely meet cardiovascular health goals.

Data from the American Heart Association indicates that heart disease remains the top cause of mortality in the U.S., with a heart disease related death occurring approximately every 34 seconds. Despite these statistics, most cardiovascular disease is considered preventable through consistent lifestyle changes, with regular exercise serving as a primary defense.

Physical therapists are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between a sedentary lifestyle and long-term cardiovascular fitness. Rather than focusing solely on isolated joint pain, PTs treat the whole person by addressing the physical barriers, like chronic pain, old injuries, or lack of mobility that often make exercise feel intimidating or unattainable. By removing these obstacles, physical therapy helps patients safely strengthen their most vital muscle: the heart!

Number 1 - Eating Better
Eat well-balanced meals throughout the day to keep your heart and brain working at their best. Don’t worry about “special foods” – a variety of healthy foods is best.

Using techniques to conserve your energy can help you get through your day without getting fatigued. It is importance to find ways to reduce the amount of effort needed to perform activities, eliminate some activities, and build more time for rest throughout the day.

Are you struggling with low energy? Ask your therapist how you can conserve your energy to help you make it through your day!
