Not many people enjoy their CPAP machine. 😅 No doubt it helps you breathe better at night and get some much-needed shuteye, but it can be noisy and difficult to travel with (to say the least😑).

Did you know there’s a modern, low-profile alternative?😏

Oral sleep appliances happen to be our specialty, and let me tell you, they can be just as effective (if not more) than CPAP! 😌 It’s more like wearing a mouthguard, which means no nasal mask, no tubes, and no noise.🙅 Just pure bedtime bliss.😴✨

Nearly everyone snores, so it must be a totally benign symptom, right? 🤨

Well, yes and no.🤷

Some people who snore have absolutely no issue with their airway – or their sleep quality. 💁 At the same time, sawing wood is an extremely common sign of obstructive sleep apnea. If your Z’s are loud enough to keep the people around you awake, you may want to get a sleep test!📝

😩 Feeling tired throughout the day is definitely a symptom of not getting enough sleep, but sometimes chronic lack of sleep has less to do with your lifestyle habits and more to do with obstructive sleep apnea. 😓 If this is the case, getting treatment could clear the fog from your mind! 🌥️

A sleep test administered by a qualified professional (like your friends here at SleepMed Solutions) will tell you exactly what’s going on. 📝 It never hurts to get tested and find out whether CPAP or oral appliance therapy could help.☝️

So February was American Heart Health Month, and guess what? March is Sleep Awareness Month! 😅 We’d be crazy not to follow the theme. 🤭 For our first sleep awareness post, we want to show just how much sleep apnea impacts people:

😴 Experts estimate that one in seven adults have obstructive sleep apnea – and that’s on a worldwide scale.
😴 Despite this, somewhere between 80% to 90% of cases go undiagnosed.
😴 Sleep apnea is just as common as diabetes in the US.
😴 Men with sleep apnea are more likely to report symptoms like snoring, choking at night, or waking up gasping for air.
😴 Women with sleep apnea are more likely to report headaches, fatigue, mental health challenges, and insomnia.
😴 People over the age of 65 are twice as likely to develop sleep apnea.
😴 Children can also have obstructive sleep apnea, and it’s estimated that about 5% of them do.

Now you know!💡

This is our last American Heart Health Month post, promise! 😇 Those with sleep apnea are nearly four times more likely to develop atrial fibrillation (or, in plain speak, an irregular heartbeat🧐). This condition isn’t usually life-threatening, but it does still increase the risk of blood clots and stroke. ☝️

There are many good reasons to treat your sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy or CPAP. Clearly, one of the most important ones is to protect your heart!💖

Did you know that the oxygen drops you experience with sleep apnea double your risk of experiencing a heart attack? 😬 It’s not a fun fact, unfortunately, but it does show how important it is to get a good night’s rest. 🛌 💤 Sleep apnea treatment could very well help you rest better AND live longer!🫶

Speaking of the heart, happy Valentine’s Day! 💝 🎉 We hope you’re celebrating with someone special. 🤭 Just try not to go overboard with the chocolate. All that sugar isn’t good for your heart OR your sleep quality!😅

February is American Heart Health Month, yall 💓 And believe it or not, sleep apnea has a looot to do with your heart health! 😴

For example, about 50% of people with sleep apnea have high blood pressure – a.k.a. “hypertension.” This makes the heart work harder, and over time, the strain can cause serious damage.🫣

Show your heart some love by treating your sleep apnea and improving your sleep quality!😉

☕ ✨ Good coffee can be a real godsend in the morning, especially when you didn’t sleep very well the night before. 😅 But you should be careful about when you brew your last cup for the day – or when you drink any caffeinated beverage, for that matter! ☝️ It’s best to avoid caffeine entirely 6 to 8 hours before bed, otherwise you could find yourself missing out on more sleep. 🙅

💡 If you have ADHD, pay close attention to how your body responds to caffeine. For some, it compensates for low dopamine levels and actually makes them feel sleepy or more relaxed. 🧐 But for others, caffeine can worsen ADHD symptoms, making it harder to get good quality sleep. 😶

Like many things, caffeine can be helpful or harmful – it all depends on the situation (and when you drink it)! 😉

Sometimes, it’s nice to go through all your stuff with an “out with the old, in with the new 💪 ” mentality. For whatever reason, getting rid of old things you don’t use anymore or simply don’t like can be deeply satisfying – especially when you’re making room for an upgrade. 👀

If you immediately thought of your CPAP machine just now, maybe it’s time to transition to oral appliance therapy. 😅 You could be "out" with a noisy, bulky machine 😒 and “in” with a quiet, easily portable sleep apnea solution.✨ We’d be happy to help you make the switch!😉

Still trying to “catch up” on post-holiday sleep? 😓 That might be because naps and adjusted bedtime hours don’t work like financial loans. 🫠 If you missed out on 2 hours of sleep during the night, taking a 2-hour power nap won’t cancel out your “sleep debt.”

Remember, 1 + 1 doesn’t necessarily equal 2 as far as rest is concerned. 🙃 It can take a couple of weeks to a few months to reverse the effects of repeated sleep loss. Instead of trying to keep score with your body, stick to a consistent nightly routine. 🌝 Eventually, your circadian rhythms should bounce back to normal!
