The Triad Yoga Institute was established in 1999 by co-owners Terry Brown and Jerry Cunningham. We have come a long way since our first studio opened on South Elm Street in downtown Greensboro, moving and expanding our studio space to our present location on West Market Street in January, 2011. We are fortunate to have many of the best yoga intructors in the area teaching at TYI, offering a variety of classes for every student of yoga from beginner to advanced. We also offer speciality yoga classes including Gentle, Stretch, Flow and Therapeutics and Exercise. An upheld philosophy here at Triad Yoga is one of compassion, seeing the needs of the individual as the highest priority. We address physical needs and offer tools for the mind and spirit. Our 200 hr and 500 hr teaching training programs are recognized by Yoga Alliance. The Triad Yoga Insitute's short history is now blended into the long 6000 year history of yoga, and for that we are proud.

Join us on April 1 at 5:30pm for Yoga Studies. Our topic this week is The Hamstring Class!

There are many reasons that we may have tight hamstrings. We may ask ourselves, are we really stretching them correctly? And are we really spending enough time with the hamstrings to undo the years spent getting them tight? This class will focus on many practices we can get the hamstrings to respond to our yoga, so we are never bored. Imagine one hour just focusing on your hamstrings! All levels.

The topic of our Yoga Studies class on March 25, Wednesday at 5:30pm is Yoga Chair Tricks! Come practice with us!

Chair Yoga is a very important way of practicing variations of Yoga postures when it may not be safe for a student to get down onto and off the floor However, there are many other ways the chair can be utilized in Yoga classes. Advanced practitioners can use the chair to explore the asanas to a greater depth. Students can stay in more difficult poses longer and with less effort. This allows a greater exploration of the pose, improving flexibility and strength, and then eventually the practice of the posture without the chair. Recommended at least 6 months of asana practice.

Lunges in yoga - including high lunge and low lunge (Anjaneyasana) - are powerful, multi-joint poses that strengthen the legs, glutes, and core while increasing flexibility in the hips and hip flexors. They improve balance, deepen spinal length, and can relieve sciatica or tight hips, making them crucial for reversing the effects of sitting. Try this variation using a blanket to pad the knee and blocks supporting the hands. ✨

Join us on March 18, Wednesday at 5:30pm for iRest Yoga Nidra for Pain, our topic for our Yoga Studies class.

Suffering arises when we separate from right action, when we refuse rather than welcome pain. Pain is our nervous system’s natural response to internal and external events that are calling for our attention. It makes sense, then, that we should listen and welcome messengers of pain and suffering, which are trying to orient us to right action with respect to the internal or external events that are giving rise to the messengers of pain and suffering. When we respond correctly, suffering ceases, pain diminishes or entirely dissolves, and equanimity ensues. All Levels.

Join us on February 25 at 5:30pm for Yawning Yoga, the topic for this week’s Yoga Studies class!

We are taught in our society that yawning is rude. But what can be more satisfying that a full blown yawn, particularly one accompanied with a good stretch? Animals do it all the time, most notably when they move from inactivity to activity. Yawning is nature’s way of giving your body a quick boost of oxygen. This increased oxygen intake isn’t just beneficial; it also helps to clear out carbon dioxide from the bloodstream, leaving you feeling more alert and refreshed. Seep deprivation can increase the frequency of yawns but it’s just your body telling you it is time to recharge! We can also use yawning on purpose with yoga to release tension, increase oxygen, and enhance mindfulness.—All Levels.
