DCMH is partnering with the American Legion Post 129 and Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home recognize and thank all who have served. In this year's parade, youth are invited to take part in the "Walk with a Hero" campaign, walking or riding alongside a Veteran in the parade.

Following the Annual Veterans Parade, DCMH invites Veterans to join us at the American Legion Post 129 for a lunch catered by Snikkers and Peanuts. No RSVP is required.

DCMH is proud to announce the success of its recent Men’s Health Tailgate, a free community health screening event, held on November 1, 2025, in the Rehabilitation & Medical Offices building. This year’s event attracted 121 attendees who received a total of 1,446 free screenings, an impressive 246 more screenings than last year, underscoring DCMH’s growing impact on community wellness.

DCMH proudly announces that Ally Metz, Director of Inpatient Services, has received the 2025 Outstanding Critical Access Hospital Leadership Award, recognizing her remarkable leadership in enhancing healthcare quality and patient outcomes in our rural community.

As Director of Inpatient Services as the Readmissions Reduction Team, Ally has played a key role in lowering hospital readmissions by strengthening teamwork and ensuring patients receive the care and support they need to fully recover.

When elementary teacher Nicole Niese was diagnosed with breast cancer, a mammogram at Decatur County Memorial Hospital helped detect it early, and, as Nicole says, “that screening saved my life.”

Now, more than two years later, Nicole is using her story to inspire others. She led a fundraiser at Greensburg Elementary Pirates for the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County's Pink Ribbon Fund and Countywide Pink Out Day, helping ensure everyone in our community can access life-saving breast health services, no matter their circumstances.

“DCMH may seem like a small-town hospital, but I got the most incredible cancer care I could’ve ever asked for,” Nicole shared.

“Seeing those pink trucks and how many people were there in support made me so proud to be part of this community,” Melissa said. “It’s nice to get out, to feel that support, and to spend time with family and friends again. This is all part of the journey, the shock, the anger, the exhaustion, but now, I’m finally starting to get my energy back and feel like myself again.”

When Melissa Atkins pulled into DCMH earlier this month, she wasn’t expecting her day to turn into something she’d never forget.
