Whatever you focus on the most, you are CREATING. If it’s something you DON’T want, it’s literally like watering the weeds in your garden."

What exactly are you manifesting each day? Are you creating growth and progress? Or are you gradually eroding your mind and limiting your beliefs? It is one or the other. Words are incredibly powerful. You own internal dialogue can make or break you from the inside out. Words you say, or words that

How to support someone through grief?

"Sometimes we can be at a loss as to how to help someone we know and love who is grieving, as well as we may not know what we need if we are grieving ourselves. What do we say? What is helpful? Should I not have said that one thing at the funeral? It’s so easy to want to be helpful but feel as though you’re just filling awkward, empty space with words."

"In addition to loss and death, there are many different types of grief and ways that it manifests or becomes lodged within the human mind, body and spirit. Over the past few years (as many of us surely have) I have become very intimate with grief and for a time, was completely swallowed by it. I have learned a lot about when to move forward and when to turn inward."

What makes a good therapy session? 🧐😬👀 Spoiler Alert: it’s not just a ‘good therapist.’

"Whether you’re new to the therapeutic process or not, knowing how to utilize and evaluate your therapy sessions is very worthwhile knowledge. You and your therapist are both bringing different things to the table and investing into your time together, so you ought to know what to look for and how you can make the most of each session. Just like in any other profession, there are good therapists and poor ones, creative ones and lazy ones, good fits and bad fits. The same goes for clients! Some are actually willing to do the work and will see change as a result, while others just want to talk once a week and stay trapped in their comfort zones..."

New blog post as part of an upcoming series from Dave: Building Infrastructure In Therapy Part 1: Why “Trying Harder” Doesn't Work.

"I'm using the word infrastructure to make the point that if you have NEVER had a successful conversation with your partner where you felt heard, got your point across to where it was at least accepted if not agreed with, and did the same for your partner, then you have not actually been having a dialogue at all. You have been having two separate monologues and expecting the impossible..."

Meditation is a skill. Learning to check in with yourself is the first step to being able to fully connect with yourself.
🌱Grounding practices along with meditative skills allow the body to return to “chill mode” where all of the fight or flight alarm bells begin to turn off. Remember this is a skill. Be kind to yourself if you feel distracted or unfocused when you first begin 🤍

The way we approach our partners, friends, and loved ones and the structure of how we discuss uncomfortable thing with them vastly changes the outcome of the discussion. Many couples and families are in fact discussing the right things but not in the right way. Relationships are complex because each person comes to the table with their own “stuff”.

Healing isn’t as easy as 5 steps, but it’s a good place to start.
