Robert Davis Kalp Jr., known by many as Coach Kalp, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026 with his loved ones by his side. Robert was born in Bayshore Long Island, New York on April 28, 1945. He was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy Kalp. He was the loving husband of Andrea Kalp for the past 53 years. Together, Robert and Andrea have 3 children: Bobbi Jo Sanders of Greensburg, Jacyln Garlick (Jim) of Greensburg and Jarrette Kalp (Renee) of Pittsburgh. He was the loving Grandfather of Mackenzie and Morgan Kubinec, Andrew Sanders, and Jackson and Chloe Kalp. In addition, he is survived by his sister Renee Hollis (Paul) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and multiple nieces and nephews.

Bob’s family moved to Mount Pleasant, PA when he was 2 years old. He went on to attend Hurst High School, which later merged to form Mt. Pleasant High School. He was known as “Butch” in high school where he played 2 years of JV football and 4 years of basketball.

He went on to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He played 4 years of varsity basketball there (where his nickname was “Bumper”) and was the leading scorer and rebounder in his junior year, averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.

After graduating from IUP with B.S. and M.S degrees in chemistry, Coach Kalp started teaching chemistry and coaching basketball at Hempfield High School in 1967. The following year, he was drafted during the Vietnam War, and spent 2 years at Ft. Gordon, Georgia working as a Forensic Chemist in the Criminal Investigation Division.

He returned to Hempfield where he continued to teach and coach. He went on to teach Chemistry for 37 years at Hempfield High School. Many students would joke that they could take chemistry notes from down the hall with how loud Coach Kalp lectured in his classroom. He retired from coaching basketball in 2006 after being on the staff for 37years.

During the 1997 year, Bob became the head girls’ softball coach. Along with support of many assistant coaches, he used the discipline he learned in the Army to create one of the most successful programs in the history of high school sports.

Coach Kalp and the Hempfield Spartans went on to win four Pennsylvania State Championships (1999, 2016, 2017, 2018), and seven WPIAL titles, with five in a row from 2015-19. No other WPIAL softball team has won three consecutive state titles. They celebrated a perfect season when Coach Kalp led them to a 27-0 record in 2017. The Spartans won 16 section titles under Coach Kalp. Bob coached softball on a field now named in his honor, a fitting tribute to a championship-winning career that spanned 4 decades. FloSoftball named him National Coach of the Year in 2018 and in 2022 he was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame.

Coach Kalp has touched the lives of so many family members, friends, students, and players. He was born to teach and coach. He will reunite with his friends and fellow coaches Dick Albright and Ray Mello in a Field of Dreams in Heaven and his legacy will live on forever.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Jeannette.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Hempfield Area Softball program (venmo ).

Rolv Hundal, 85, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026, with family nearby. was born April 28, 1940 to Marit and Einar Hundal in Odda Norway. He grew up with his sister Lillema in Odda. He was very involved with sports when he was young especially running, hiking, fishing, swimming, and soccer. He traveled to Oregon to do a year of study at an American High School where he met one of his best friends Steve. After returning to Norway, Rolv graduated from high school, did a year of military service partly in Svalbard, and graduated from Trondheim university with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He met his wife Beate at a dance in Odda proposing three days later. He became great friends with his brothers in law Broren and Yan. A few years later their son Hein was born in Odda and they lived in Lørenskog outside of Oslo visiting Rolv’s grandfather when they wanted to watch TV. Shortly thereafter Rolv was hired by Boeing and they immigrated to Seattle Washington. For the first time in their lives, they owned their own car and a TV which seemed like great luxuries. Boeing had financial trouble and Rolv’s friend Chris Bagnall at Boeing had gotten a nuclear engineering job at Westinghouse in New Stanton Pennsylvania. Westinghouse asked Chris if he knew any other good engineers and Chris recommended Rolv. Rolv, Beate, and Hein move to nearby Greensburg PA where they lived for more than 50 years. At Westinghouse. he had a group of friends Leo, Hans, Nevin, Carl, Mel, and Chris Bagnel. Many of them would jog at lunch together. They would often hike, canoe, run, bike, or ski often at Laurel Mountain on weekends. They made several trips to Algonquin National Park in Canada. On one of those trips, his brothers in law, Yan and Broren, and his son Geir joined them. They had such great fun together that they all decided to meet in Norway for the yearly marathon ski race Skarverennet. This group was largely responsible for designing the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Project and the Nerva rocket project. Rolv coauthored several patents with this group of engineers. After a severe case of Covid in 2020, he moved to Brookdale Senior Living in Latrobe. There will be no public visitation or service.
