David Joseph Trentin, 69, of Greensburg, formerly of Vandergrift, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. He was born June 19, 1956, in Natrona Heights, PA. He is a son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Kanaitis) Trentin. Dave graciously served, for 34 years, as a Social Studies teacher at the Hempfield Area School District, twenty of those years were spent as the Work Study Coordinator, of which he was very proud. During his career at Hempfield, he was involved sports, such as coaching junior high boys (17 seasons) and junior high girls (13 seasons) basketball for 30 total seasons. He also worked many basketball games, track meets, wrestling matches, and other sporting events during his tenure, as well as after he retired from teaching; in his retired years, he worked many of these events with his son which are moments he cherished deeply. Dave’s roots in the Kiski Area (Vandergrift) and the St. Gertrude community were very important to him. He loved the Benedictine community who educated him in grade school as well as in college at Saint Vincent College; he, very much, loved Saint Vincent and its community members and always professed his roots as a Benedictine and Bearcat at heart. He was a Supreme Officer at the Hilltop Social Club in Greensburg, also serving as a member of the Board of Trustees and as the Vice President of the Hilltop Social Club in years past. In addition, Dave was a Social Member of the Polish Club in East Vandergrift, and a Social Member of the VFW Post 33, in Greensburg. Dave represented and lived his faith daily. He served as an altar server for over 60 years at multiple churches and chapels in the Diocese of Greensburg. He was a member of the eucharistic adoration group at St Bruno Parish. He was an avid supporter of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins, as well as local college and high school sports teams. He attended many sporting events, plays, concerts, and musical shows. The most important part of Dave’s life was the time with his family. He was a very devoted and loving husband and father. Dave was so proud of the many accomplishments of his children and family members. Dave was the epitome of generosity, kindness, loyalty, determination, and friendship. He displayed these, and many other positive characteristics, through his words and actions daily.
Besides his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in law, Joann and Ted Andrews. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 blessed years of marriage, Elaine Andrews Trentin; a son, Joel (Samantha Prave) Trentin, of Greensburg; a daughter, Rebecca Trentin, of Greensburg; a brother, Jerome Trentin, of Vandergrift; a sister, Deborah (Bob) Stedrak, of New Stanton; two brothers-in-law: Dan Andrews, of Mars, and John (Kristin) Andrews, of Loveland, OH; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Luke Stedrak (Dave’s Godson), Vanessa (Yanko) Ibanez, Tammy Trentin, Kimberly Trentin, Kaitlyn Andrews, and Teddy Andrews.
