HISTORY:
The Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home was established in 1910 as the Cowherd Funeral Home, by Mr. Cowherd and his wife Louise Cabel Cowherd. They operated the funeral home with their daughter Florence Cowherd, until bad health forced them to seek someone else to come in and help them in 1945. Cowherd contacted Walter L. Parrott from Campbellsville, who had just returned from his 4 year stint in the Navy & Marine Corp. during World War II, to come and be a part of the Cowherd Funeral Home. Parrott came to Greensburg in 1945 and purchased half of the Cowherd Funeral Home, which then became the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home. He later purchased the rest of the funeral home. Parrott's wife, Rose, joined in the operation of the funeral home in 1957. Walter and Rose were co-owners, along with their son, Walter L. Parrott, Jr., until the death of Mr. in September of 2004 and the death of Mrs Rose Parrott. The funeral home now is owned by their son Walter, who is accompanied by his wife Deana who is also a licensed funeral director. Many changes have been made in the building over the years. In 1966 a major change was made and a new chapel was added, along with improvements in the living area. In 1990 a second office was added, along with modernizing the equipment. On December 15, 1999 a new showroom was added and we think it is less stressful on the families during a very stressful time. It was one of only two of its kind in the state and we are very proud to say that the families have all commented on how they like it much better and that it is much less intimidating. We invite you to come by and see us anytime and look around our facility as we are, little by little, trying to update and improve our home away from home to better serve our families and the community.

Weekly Devotion:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7
The Lord finds joy in those who fear Him and put their trust in Him.
What does it mean to fear the Lord? If you don’t know God personally, this is sometimes misunderstood. It doesn’t mean to be scared of Him like He’s an angry mean and grumpy man waiting to destroy and constantly punish us. Good grief, NO! Far from the truth. To have fear in the Lord means to have honor for Him, respect, revere, and be submissive to His will. Be in Awe!!
Those who do not have fear for the Lord are fools scripture says. I don’t know about you, but I don’t care anything about being considered a fool. Proverbs talks about how a fool will hate truth and wisdom that only comes from fearing and surrendering to the Lord. Obedience and coming out of the darkness of this ole’ world and into the light of Jesus.
“And if you look for it as for silver and search for it as hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:4-5
You will find, the more you read scripture and the more you grow in your walk with Christ, the more and more you become in awe of Him!! All you do starts to change and align up with God’s ways and not our own. True wisdom that only comes from Him.
I pray that we go forth and stay in awe, reverence and continue to trust in our mighty Savior. Let us humble ourselves and walk in truth and knowledge from God.
Have a wonderful and comforted rest of your week. ~Deana

Weekly Devotion:
The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. Proverbs 28:1
How many out there are bold? I struggle with this in some ways. But, with my love and desire for boldness in my life I live for Christ, I pray about. I pray for more boldness. I want to always stand bold for everything He is about and what He means to me and what He has done for me. Some may not think I am, but I’m an introvert. Regardless of whether we/you are an introvert or extrovert, the Enemy will try to use fear and our timidnous against us and silence our voice. We must realize that the spirit of fear is a lie and straight from Satan! If you are a born again, child of God, your identity in Christ means you have boldness inside of you. The Bible says Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. You have that by the Holy Spirit. I don’t know about you, but I think that is pretty awesome and exciting! I just hate it took me so long to grasp it and acknowledge it. Remember He gives you authority and power over the enemy!! If you’ve ever struggled with the spirit of fear, understand today that it is not from God and you don’t have to put up with it any longer. The Lord has given you the spirit of love, of power, and a sound mind! Whenever the Enemy tries to intimidate you with His lies, remember you have the power of the King of Kings living inside you! Let The Lion of the tribe of Judah roar back! SO, NOT TODAY OR ANY DAY SATAN!!
Have a wonderful and comforted rest of your week and remember to roar back at the enemy when he attacks, and remind him that, he is already defeated.
