So, how is your 2025 going so far? Are you excited about a fresh start? Are you still struggling with "ghosts" from past years that continue to haunt you? Perhaps a little of both . . .
I have a thought on how to approach this new year.

My message today is simple: be kind. I'm reading so much in the news and on social media about aggression, anger, hatred, meanness, despair and darkness.

We need more kindness, understanding, patience, and really just common courtesy and human decency.

It all starts with you and me.
A simple act of kindness goes a long way. Hold the door for the person behind you. Call a friend that you haven't spoken to in a while. Tell your spouse/children/parents that you love them. Walk a friend's dog while they are mending from an illness.
Too many more to list . . . but you get the idea.

I'm reminded of one of my mom's favorite prayers. The prayer of St. Francis.

It begins with:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
And where there is sadness, joy.

Bring the love. Forgive. Have faith. Have hope. Be the light and the joy.

A very Happy New Year to us all.

Hello My Friend,

I was following the recent hurricanes that had impacted the southeast end of our country. First the devastating Hurricane Helene that traveled up the Gulf primarily impacting North Carolina and Tennessee in a horrific way, then another strong Hurricane by the name of Milton that hit Florida hard. It's amazing that the sea and wind can be so destructive. My husband and I vacation to Venice, Florida every October and it was hard to watch Milton cross the state causing so much damage, especially to the area where we visit every year.

Sometimes you can take the necessary steps for defense against storms when they are predicted, and other times you are surprised with events that come out of nowhere. I know the Florida west coast was somewhat prepared for the hurricane winds and storm surge, but I'm pretty sure that the middle and eastern portions of Florida had no way to prepare for the tornadoes that hit.

It's a parallel to our own lives, isn't it? We can be very prepared for life-changing events, but still they hit hard. And sometimes we get no warning when life's difficulties come along. But, I saw and read about stories of the best of humanity and it touched my heart and made me realize that we have to depend on each other; our family, our friends, our community, and our faith to help us through those tough times.

Hope you are having a wonderful week. Blessings to you, my friend!

Hello My Friend,

I was so very honored recently to be part of a celebration in Washington, DC as they unveiled and dedicated a national tribute to WWI. (See below for a picture of the monument itself.)

Thirty-eight larger-than-life figures are mounted across roughly 60 feet of wall and they depict scenes in the journey of an American Soldier during WWI. In the first scene, the soldier's daughter hands him his helmet while his wife touches his shoulder urging him to stay, all while his comrades are urging him into service. The sculpture then goes on to show the death and destruction of combat and then ends with the celebration of the soldier's return. He hands his helmet to his daughter who looks inside which signifies the oncoming WWII.

I was part of a group of musicians representing the five community bands of our area, Community Bands of Westmoreland County. We were invited to perform there as part of the 3-day long dedication celebration. It was quite a thrill to be a witness to the illumination ceremony on Friday in which they explained and described all the figures of the monument all while "illuminating" the monument with lights. The band's performance was on Sunday in front of the display which indeed was quite impressive.

I had a few moments prior to our performance to sit quietly and observe the massive monument and it occurred to me that this display of a soldier's journey runs a parallel for us. We are all going through a journey of our own from tender moments with loved ones, to struggles with turmoil, upheaval, agitation, and unrest to moments of tranquility and peace. Of course, we may be moving through all of these at any given time, around and around again like a spiral or a vortex.

The point to all this is that while we may not have a monument to our lives on display in Washington, DC, we have our life span as a tribute to who we are and what we have done. And while you may feel that you are stuck in those moments of turmoil and agitation, things will change and spiral around, as life tends to do, leading you to more positive moments. Our life's journey . . .

As always, I'm honored that you've allowed me to be a part of your journey, helping you to move forward to those moments of peace, quiet, and awareness. If we've not yet met, reach out and let's talk. Let me help guide you on your journey.

Take care.

Summer is here!! I think about that cute song by Olaf from Frozen when he sings about summer.

"Sometimes I like to close my eyes and imagine what it'll be like when summer does come. Bees'll buzz, kids'll blow dandelion fuzz ."

Of course, there's more to the song about him being snow and what to expect with summer, but that's for another time.

Enjoy the season, but be safe. Here are some tips to better enjoy these hot days.
*Work out in the morning to avoid the mid- day heat.
*Stay hydrated. I'm currently enjoying an organic strawberry and lemon infused water drink. Yummy!
*Wear sunscreen. Even if you are only outside a short time.
*Shop at the farmer's market. Clean eating is so easy when you have access to local produce.
*Take advantage of the grill. It's a great way to get together and can cut down on heat in the kitchen.

Have a great week, my friend. Stay cool!

When my grandchildren were visiting over Memorial Day weekend, I was playing in the yard with them . . barefoot. It really felt good! Feeling the grass and earth under my feet just resonated with me. It turns out . . . it's a thing! Grounding or Earthing is connecting with Earth by Barefoot Walking and making a connection with the energy of the land.

Here's to the first day of summer! Take your shoes off! Walk barefoot in the grass. Enjoy!! Have a great week, my friend!

Hello My Friend!

I was at a family wedding this past weekend, and as I was there enjoying the day, thoughts of weddings that I've attended as a child came to mind. More specifically, the Bridal Dance that happened at almost all weddings. Nowadays, it's called the Dollar Dance, but it was sweet to see that some young couples still have this at their weddings and are keeping this tradition alive. We even pulled out the hankies and were waving them. (Remember that?)

It's funny how things change yet they stay the same.

I wish you all a great week. Enjoy the wonderful sunshine we are having! Peace to you, my friend.

I certainly hope your May is off to a good start. Better days are coming. Enjoy these beautiful flowers that I saw at Phipps Conservatory at the final days of their Spring Flower Show.

Plants go through various stages from seed to sprout, then through vegetative, budding, flowering, and ripening. Similarly, the nutritional needs of people and plants change as they grow. Are you feeding yourself so that you can grow? Not physically, but emotionally and spiritually. You are worth much more than some pretty flowers in the garden!

Be kind to yourself. Hugs to you, my friend. Have a good week.

It's the first day of Spring!! (but it sure doesn't feel like it) If you are still dealing with the physical ache and tenderness that winter can bring, or perhaps the sorrow or depression that the cold months can harbor, please know that you are not alone.
Reach out and ask me how I can help you feel better.

For now, enjoy the beautiful skies and sun that we've had these past few days . . . even if it is cold. Brighter days are coming! 🌞

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

This traditional Irish blessing is an ancient Celtic prayer. I wish you a Happy and safe St. Patrick's Day this week. ☘️

Happy Mardi Gras!

In French, Mardi Gras means “Fat Tuesday.” (Mardi is the word for Tuesday and gras is the word for fat.)
This name comes from the tradition of using up the eggs, milk, and fat in ones pantry because they were forbidden during the 40-day Lenten fast, which begins the next day (Ash Wednesday).
Therefore, a big part of Shrove Tuesday is eating an abundance of delicious fried food—especially donuts and Shrove Tuesday Pancakes!

Here’s some more Mardi Gras trivia for you.

* Among the Pennsylvania Dutch, the Tuesday is called Faasenacht (also spelled Fastnacht), meaning “fast night.” Everyone enjoys the traditional Fasnacht pastry, a rectangular doughnut with a slit in the middle.
* In Polish communities, the Tuesday is called “Pączki Day,” after the puffy, jelly-filled doughnuts traditionally enjoyed.
* In Sweden, the Tuesday is called semmeldagen, semlans dag, or fettisdagen. They enjoy a sweet cream bun called semla. Happy Semlans Dag!
* In Louisiana, the favorite treat is the beignet, a pillowy fried dough concoction.

So, get your King cake, beads, masks, and wear the traditional colors of purple, green, and gold to celebrate this day.

“Throw me somethin’, mister!”

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

This is my most favorite quote about love. May today (and all days) you find love and kindness. May today (and all days) you give love and kindness.

Happy Valentine’s Day, my friends!
