Back-to-school season can stir up a lot of emotions for our kids and parents, too. 🥹
If you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or scattered…. you're not alone. This time of year often comes with various pressures such as silent comparisons — jobs, cars, neighborhoods, backpacks, social media snapshots, social status. But here’s your gentle reminder: none of those things define your worth.
The job you have, the car you drive, or where you live doesn’t make you more or less valuable than any other parent. Neither does the size of your home, the vacations you can or can’t afford, or the school your child attends. And hear this, too: your child’s popularity, behavior, or talents do not define your worth as a parent.
Let’s pass this truth on to our kids. It’s more than okay to teach them that no one is better than them — as long as we help them understand they are not better than anyone else, either. Every person matters. Everyone holds equal value and deserves respect. Now, that's a legacy worth leaving.
In addition to comparison, it’s understandable to experience fear. The state of our country is harmful for children and adolescents. It can be turmoil sometimes having to place them in the care of someone else.
Therapy can help you process these feelings, learn ways to stay grounded, and regulate your nervous system so you can show up for your kids with more calm, connection, and confidence. You deserve support, too, parents! We’re with you this school year and hope that it will be the best one yet!
