Physicians East proudly welcomes Melanie Sanders, MD!
Dr. Sanders is a Family Medicine physician with extensive experience treating both acute and chronic medical conditions, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, obesity, and more. She has a passion for patient education, preventive care and the comprehensive management of chronic disease. Dr. Sanders completed her undergraduate degree, Doctor of Medicine, and Family Medicine residency at East Carolina University, where she served as both Chief Resident and Junior Chief Resident.
Dr. Sanders has practiced in a variety of clinical settings, including a outpatient clinic at ECU Health Family Medicine in Wallace, North Carolina. She also has experience in academic medicine, having served as Associate Program Director at Tidelands Health Family Medicine Residency Program in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and teaching both medical students and residents at her alma mater, ECU Family Medicine.
Demonstrating her dedication to Family Medicine and patient education, Dr. Sanders has delivered presentations on a range of topics such as women’s cardiovascular health, breast cancer, depression, physical activity, and stress management.
Outside of clinical practice, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children at the beach, playing tennis, and going to the gym.
Dr. Sanders has earned numerous honors and awards, including AAFP Leading Physician Wellbeing Scholar, Outstanding Resident Teacher, Outstanding Care of the Geriatric Patient Award, Endocrine Society Award, Katherine Bray-Strickland Award, BB&T Leadership Scholar, and recognition as an EC Scholar (now Brinkley-Lane Scholar) during her undergraduate studies. She is a current member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, and she recently served on the NCAFP Committee on Member Satisfaction and Practice Environment.
