Illinois State Medical Society offers a free resource booklet that includes information and the documents needed concerning Living Wills, Power of Attorney for Healthcare, Mental Health Treatment preference, POLST, and organ donation. As a healthcare provider, we find that many people do not have these sort of things in order for themselves and their family. See the link below for a free printable document.

The staff at Bond County Home Health and Hospice would like to express our gratitude to the entire team at Bond County Pharmacy. Lunch was provided the the staff today as a show of our appreciation. This does not begin to cover the thanks that we owe them. The staff at Bond County Pharmacy go above and beyond on a daily basis to make sure our hospice patients have the medications they need 24/7 and are always available for consultation with our hospice team. Our staff is very grateful for them all and again want to say thanks for making our jobs a little bit easier and caring so much for those in our community.

I wanted to share this link with everyone. Many times when we see our patients, they are asking about this information and how to get it taken care of. Here is a very easy to follow booklet to get some of your matters in line. Make sure you keep a copy handy in your home as well as supplying a copy to your medical providers.

Happy National Nurses Week to all our nurses at Bond County Home Health and Hospice (not pictured Amanda Cress RN and Ashley Wiedau LPN). National Nurses Week runs from May 6th-12th. If you have any great stories or nice words to share about one of our nurses, please share below. Here are a few fun facts about nursing.....

1) There are more that 3.8 million nurses nationwide. About 80% of those are registered nurses (RNs) and the other 20% are licensed practical nurses (LPNs). Additionally, there are over 325,000 nurse practitioners licensed in the U.S. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, nurses also comprise the largest segment of hospital staff, are the primary providers of hospital patient care, and deliver most of the nation's long-term care.

2) Nurses don't just work in hospitals. About 60% of employed RNs work in hospitals. Nurses also work in physicians offices, clinics, public health, home health, hospice, labs, military bases, war zones, health IT and many others.

3) National Nurses Week has been celebrated for more than 40 years. The week was formally designated by the White House by President Nixon in 1974. Nurses week begins on May 6th and ends on May 12th- Florence Nightingale's birthday.
