Feeling stuck or down and ready to turn obstacles into opportunities? Whether you're looking to enhance the good in your life, prevent spiraling, or explore how early childhood attachment and trauma may impact your ability to navigate relationships, trust others, and manage anxiety and fear, counseling can be your next step. I personally experienced the transformative power of counseling after a life-changing accident, making me a strong advocate for this process. My background in philosophy and theology adds a unique layer to my perspective, allowing me to help you explore your questions and find meaning in your journey. I am a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a passion for helping individuals, couples, and families. My goal is to empower clients to achieve their objectives using evidence-based approaches while staying true to their values and beliefs. Born and raised in West Michigan, I have a deep understanding of the culture and have lived in various places, including Chicago, Omaha, and Michoacán, Mexico. Clients and colleagues often describe me as down-to-earth and easy to connect with, thanks to my diverse experience and education. My therapeutic approach is anchored in Attachment Theory and Trauma-informed care, meaning that recognizing and reprocessing early attachment experiences and past traumas can be fundamental to healing. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and various Cognitive and Existential techniques. These approaches, combined with my knowledge of Attachment Theory and Trauma, enable me to help you navigate complex emotional challenges and develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships. As a father of three and an uncle to many, I've gained valuable life insights. My path to the counseling profession was unconventional, involving previous careers in different fields. While I once considered joining the priesthood, a motorcycle accident redirected my course towards mental health. I believe in the power of spirituality as a resource for clients I believe that spirituality and faith can be powerful resources for clients, but I view the counseling space as a neutral ground where your beliefs are respected without any agenda to proselytize or evangelize. Additionally, I'm sensitive to the topic of spiritual abuse and shame and am open to discussing it further if it resonates with you. My areas of focus encompass a wide range of concerns, including anger management, anxiety, career development, couples counseling, depression, divorce/separation, emotional intelligence, family counseling, grief and loss, intimacy and relationships, marriage counseling, men's issues, mindfulness, parenting, sexuality, spirituality, stress management/coping, and addressing video game and internet addiction. If you're ready to take the first step but unsure which therapist to choose, the intake team at CCWM can help connect your concerns with the right clinicians. If I have sparked your curiosity, I invite you to book a session to get a feel for my style and approaches. Together, we can navigate your unique journey towards healing and growth.

Meet the Counselor

Do you want to change your story? Turn obstacles into opportunities? Counseling is a great way to accomplish both! As someone who went through a life changing accident, I trust and believe in the counseling process that helped me change my own outcome. I provide services to clients of all backgrounds and I am licensed to work with individuals, couples, and families as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). I hope to help clients accomplish their goals with an evidence based approach to maximize success in and outside of session in a way that is consistent with their values and beliefs. I base my counseling philosophy on Attachment Theory, that people are wired for connection and their relationships shape the story of their lives. Many mental health professionals provide services to couples and families, MFTs guarantee the required education and experience to effectively deal with issues involving multiple people. Some of the therapeutic approaches I use include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Existential / Experiential Client-Centered Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Structural and Strategic Family Therapy Integrative Problem Centered Therapy (IPCT) Couples Counseling: What do people seek in a romantic relationship? A secure bond that builds an intimate partnership where vulnerabilities can be shared, validated, and supported. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Ted helps couples identify their traps, disrupt negative behavioral cycles, and repair attachment wounds with partners, creating deep trust and intimacy. Decades of research confirms that EFT is one of the most effective approaches to creating satisfying, long term change with couples. Men’s Issues: There are many conflicting ideas of what it means to be a man. Often these ideas exaggerate certain characteristics at the expense of relational identities such as being a nurturing father, a loving partner, and an emotionally connected, caring friend. These issues are dear to Ted as he has witnessed and experienced the repercussions of distorted identity that Randy Flood and Charlie Donaldson have identified as Mascupathy. Distortions can create issues with po*******hy and sexual addiction, anger, vocational disappointment, and loss of connection. The good news is that through committed work, men can reclaim their story and rediscover what it means to be emotionally invested and connected with others. Sexuality: Often sexual concerns can impact relationships with partners. This can lead to embarrassment, sexual dissatisfaction, and withdrawal. Ted helps individuals explore these concerns in a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment.
