So we did a thing… and it led to the “higher-ups” calling us personally with encouraging news.

Especially Children and the Childcare Tribe is leading the way and making noise at the federal, state, and local levels. They are talking about us in legislative meetings and amongst politicians and decision makers.

Here’s why that matters:

Pausing the Working Families Child Care Scholarship Program hurts families, employers, and our entire community.

Without subsidies, parents can’t work.
Without work, families can’t survive.
Without employees, businesses suffer.

Childcare isn’t just a family issue — it’s a workforce and economic issue.

We’re not just talking about it. We’re writing letters, making calls, and meeting with legislators to advocate for real solutions.

Exciting News for Families from South Carolina First Steps! The First Steps 4K Student Application for the 2026-2027 school year is open!

All families of rising 4-year-old kindergarten students are encouraged to check their eligibility and apply at Free4KSC.org.

First Steps 4K partners with more than 300 licensed child care centers, private schools and charter schools across the state, making it easy for families to find a high-quality program that meets their needs. Most schools offer extended day and summer school options.
