Truth must enter into the soul, pe*****te and saturate it, or else it is of no value.

The enemy never quite knows how to deal with a humble man; he is so used to dealing with a proud, stubborn people that are meek man upsets his timetable. And furthermore, the man of true humility has God fighting on his side – who can win against God? Strange as it may seem, we often win over our enemies only after we have first been soundly defeated by the Lord himself. God often conquers our enemies by conquering us… When God sees that we must meet a deadly opponent, he assures our victory and brings us down in humbleness at His own feet. After that, everything is easy. We have put ourselves in a position where God can fight for us, and in the situation like that, the outcome is decided from eternity.

If you read history you will find the Christians who did most for the present world are just those who thought most of the next.

What a blessed life the life of waiting becomes, the continual worship of faith, adoring, and trusting His goodness. Instead of only taking refuge in time of need, there comes a great longing to wait continually and all day. And, however duties and engagements occupy the time and the mind, the soul gets more familiar with the secret art of waiting . Waiting becomes the habit and disposition, the very second nature and breath of the soul.

Without the present illumination of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God must remain a dead letter to every man, no matter how intelligent or well educated he may be… It is just as essential for the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth of scripture to the reader today as it was necessary for him to inspire the writers thereof in their day… Therefore to say that, because we now have all the writings of scripture complete, we no longer need the miraculous inspiration of the Spirit among men as in the former days, is ta degree of blindness… And denying the present inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we have made scripture the province of the letter learned scribe.

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. A discriminating diner might taste a chefs dish and exclaim , "perfection!" An art critic might stare at a famous painting for hours and conclude, "it's perfect!" Or a young bride to be might stare at her engagement ring and whisper, "oh, it's perfect!" Really? Are meals, paintings, and diamonds actually perfect? Not really, but we fully understand what "Perfection" means in those situations. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. So is anything in this world actually perfect? The Bible says one thing is: "the law of the Lord." What does that mean? It means that God's words to man found in Scripture, are complete, lacking for nothing; they cannot be improved upon. There is nothing missing, nothing God forget to include that we need for faith and practice in the Christian life. Paul wrote the scripture is sufficient for doctrine, reproof, correction, in instruction and righteousness. If it were not, it would not be perfect. God's word should be our first stop and the last word on anything about which it speaks. A "perfect" way to begin every day is with the prayerful consideration of God's perfect Word.

God is said to punish children for the sins of their fathers. This may appear unfair. But it is certainly true that children suffer the consequences of their parents sins. These may be transmitted physically by inherited disease, socially in the poverty caused by excessive gambling or drinking, psychologically by the tensions and conflicts of an unhappy home, and morally and behavior learned from a bad example.

When troubles assail you, do you envision the most negative outcomes to your challenges? Perhaps start by wondering what will happen, but quickly deteriorates to imagining the very worst. Subsequently, your situation seems more severe than it really is. But friend, realize that God has never been out of control over his creation for one fraction of a second since the beginning of time. Recognizing and accepting his sovereignty is vital for your inner peace – it means that nothing related to you is beyond his watchful eye and love and care. God is your protector. He is responsible for carrying out his purposes for you and meeting your needs as you obey him. No matter what happens, the Lord has a plan to bless you and reward you. This means everything you experience – even the "bad" things – he will turn for your good if you will trust him as your sovereign Lord. Therefore stop imagining the worst. Instead, praise your Saviour for always giving you His very best.

Of what use is it to discourse learnedly on the Trinity, if you lack humility and therefore displease the Trinity? Lofty words do not make a man just or holy; but a good life makes him near to God. I would far rather feel contrition then be able to define it. If you know the whole Bible by heart, and all the teachings of the philosophers, how would this help you without the grace and love of God?
– Thomas a Kempis

There are questions at issue between Christians to which I do not think we have been told the answer. There are some to which I may never know the answer; if I ask them, even in a better world, I might (for all I know) be answered as a far greater questioner was answered; "What is that to you? Follow me."
