It’s hard to explain a healthy therapeutic relationship to people who are entering therapy for the first time. It can feel closer than family or best friends yet it has firm boundaries, and it’s a business relationship. It should be honest, sometimes brutally so, and clients who fully engage learn to be incredibly vulnerable. This blog does a nice job of describing the relationship.
The intimacy of therapy isn't accidental—it's carefully constructed through specific conditions that rarely exist together in other relationships.
