Most phlebotomy students aren't failing because they don't study enough.

They fail because they don't know what to focus on. They try to study everything the same way, anatomy, tubes, safety, procedures- and burn themselves out. The exam is focused on safety, order and understanding core concepts, not perfection. When students get guidance on what actually matters their confidence goes up and their anxiety goes down.

Sibling DNA Testing: When Answers Matter

Sibling DNA testing is often used when a parent is unavailable, unwilling, or deceased. It helps determine whether two individuals share one or both biological parents.

Why someone may need sibling DNA testing:

A parent is not available for testing

Legal, family, or personal confirmation is needed

Adoption or family reunification questions

Estate, inheritance, or peace-of-mind situations

How testing works without a parent:

Both siblings provide a simple cheek swab

The lab compares shared DNA markers

Results show the likelihood of a biological sibling relationship

No blood draw is required, and the process is private and confidential.

Tube Additives Not Sticking.
Two additives are one of the biggest reasons students lose easy points on the exam. It's not because there are too many tubes- it's because students try to memorize letters instead of purpose. The exam isn't asking you to recite additives for fun it's asking if you know what the tube does to the blood. Once you understand which tubes clots which preserves, and which prevents clotting, the information actually starts to make sense. That's why studying with structure matters, you stop guessing and start understanding.

Order of draw is where most phlebotomy students start second-guessing themselves.

Not because it’s too hard — but because it’s taught as something to memorize instead of something to understand.
Order of draw is about preventing cross-contamination, not remembering colors in a random order.
When you understand why blood cultures come first and why additives matter, the order stops feeling confusing.
Most students struggle because they’re trying to rush instead of slow down and say it out loud, practice it, and correct themselves.

Anatomy and physiology is where most phlebotomy students shut down.
Not because it's impossible- but because people try to memorize everything at once. The exam doesn't test you to be a doctor. The test if you understand basic structure, function, and safety. If A&P feels overwhelming, you don't need more information you need structure.
