The U.S. Department of Justice plans to publish an Interim Final Rule (IFR) on April 20 that would delay web and mobile accessibility requirements for state and local governments under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Under this proposal, the compliance deadline for larger entities would move from April 2026 to April 2027, and for smaller entities from April 2027 to April 2028.

ACB strongly opposes the delay. Extending these deadlines denies timely access to essential government services and information, forcing people with disabilities to wait even longer for rights that should already be guaranteed.

ACB will be submitting formal comments in opposition, and we urge advocates and allies to speak out during the 60-day public comment period.

The more you know 🌠🦮

Guide dogs are allowed wherever the public is allowed, which means it is illegal to:

🤧 Deny access due to allergies, religion, or fear of dogs
🪪 Require identification or certification for a guide dog
🐕‍🦺 Require that the guide dog be wearing a vest
💵 Charge additional fees - “pet policies” do not apply

For two weeks, I saw a blueprint for what it looks like when accessibility is the starting point.

In an act of civil disobedience in 1978, disabled protesters blocked Denver buses to demand wheelchair lifts. But before they could build a civil rights movement--they needed to go to court to win the right to be arrested.

People in wheelchairs surrounded and barricaded two city buses over the course of two days, demanding wheelchair lifts and chanting, "We will ride."

Higher education is especially reliant on computers and phones, but accessibility for people with disabilities has often been forgotten. A new federal rule could change that.

Earlier this week, the Town of Greenwich Department of Public Works had the opportunity to present at the New England Chapter APWA Spring Conference.

Commissioner Jim Michel led a session titled “Communication as Infrastructure: Building Trust and Efficiency in Public Works,” highlighting how strategic communication supports project delivery, strengthens public trust, and improves day-to-day operations in public works 💡

The presentation shared real-world examples from Greenwich DPW and introduced a communications toolkit designed to help other departments plan, organize, and evaluate their outreach efforts.

Thank you to the New England Chapter APWA for the opportunity to be part of this year’s conference and to connect with public works professionals from across the region 👏

Adults in Connecticut with disabilities can be denied benefits if they score too highly on a single IQ test.

📢 WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT VAN-ACCESSIBLE PARKING SPACES 📢

👨‍🦽 A van-accessible parking space has an access aisle (the striped area adjacent to the accessible parking space), which allows people who use wheelchairs, mobility devices, or scooters the room to transfer in and out of their vehicles.

👨‍🦼 The access aisle next to the parking space is NOT a parking area. It is illegal to park in any access aisle. You can receive a ticket and/or violation for doing so. This designated area provides the necessary room for someone in a wheelchair, mobility device, or scooter to extend a ramp or lift out the side of the van and still have room to maneuver. When this area is blocked, the person is unable to enter or leave their vehicle.
