There are two main types of sleep apnea: obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. With obstructive sleep apnea, the upper airway gets blocked or partially blocked while you sleep. With central sleep apnea, your brain doesn’t tell your muscles to breathe. Obstructive sleep apnea is much more common though.
