🧩 Supporting Your Young Child’s Development: A Parent Workshop

The workshop offers parents and caregivers practical guidance and trusted information as they navigate developmental concerns, new diagnoses, and key transitions for young children with developmental disabilities.

👩‍⚕️ Featured Presenter:
Jacqueline Steele, MD, primary care pediatrician and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center. A Greenwich native, Dr. Steele is passionate about helping families transition from early intervention to school-based services and supporting children with medical needs, and is dedicated to helping families navigate the complexity of the medical system.

🐴💙 A hands-on day at the barn! Abilis’ Individualized Day Program participants enjoyed a wonderful new volunteer opportunity with New Canaan Mounted Troop (NCMT) — helping to feed and care for their horses.

NCMT is a 501(c)(3) youth development and therapeutic equestrian center in New Canaan, offering comprehensive horsemanship programs for youth and therapeutic programs for children and adults with disabilities.

Abilis is collecting women’s dresses (sizes S–3XL) and men’s suits (all sizes) for our upcoming Together We Shine event.

Abilis is hosting a new Parent Workshop: Supporting Your Young Child’s Development.

Designed for parents of young children with developmental disabilities who are navigating early concerns, new diagnoses, or upcoming transitions, this informative workshop offers practical guidance and support.

Led by experienced professionals, parents will learn about:
• What to expect from evaluation through diagnosis
• The role of developmental pediatricians
• When additional testing may be recommended
• How to access supports and resources
• Transitioning from Birth to Three to preschool and school-based services
• Practical strategies for potty training and managing challenging behaviors
• Building secure relationships and social connections
