The holiday season is here, and we know it can be a tricky time for health goals. Before you dive into the delicious spread, here are a couple of quick tips from Clinical Nutrition Center:

🍗Prioritize Protein: Fill your plate with turkey or other lean protein first—it helps you feel fuller longer.

🚶🏽‍♀️Move Your Body: Take a brisk walk before or after the meal. It’s a great way to bond with family!

đź’žEat mindfully, enjoy your favorites, and prioritize what truly nourishes you: joy and connection.

Dietitians Influence. Influencers Don't Qualify.

It's crucial to understand the difference between a Dietitian and everyone else in the wellness space.

Dietitians (RD/RDN) are the Gold Standard:
âś…Rigorous Training: They must complete an accredited university degree, undergo 1,200+ hours of supervised clinical practice, and pass a national board exam.
âś…Unique Qualification: This makes them uniquely qualified to interpret complex research, assess individual health needs, and provide safe, evidence-based, personalized nutrition guidance.

Influencers, Nutritionists, & Health Coaches (Everyone Else):
❌ No Standard Requirements: They do not have to meet the academic or clinical standards of a Dietitian.
⚠️ Source of Advice: Advice is often based on personal experiences, sponsorship, or trending topics—not rigorous, evidenced-based science.

⚠️ A Critical Distinction
Nutrition is a SCIENCE, not a trend. Most influencers and self-proclaimed "experts" rarely have the background to truly understand:

Metabolism & Biochemistry
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
Nutrient Deficiencies
Long-term Health Impacts

Important Note on Doctors and Advanced Practice Providers (PAs and NPs): While your Primary Provider is deeply trained in medicine (diagnosing and treating disease), most receive minimal formal nutrition education. Their focus is not on designing individualized eating plans and supporting lifestyle changes—that's the Dietitian's specialty!

A High Protein, High Fiber Side Dish or Meal (CNC Dietitian and Patient Approved)

1 box of bean or red lentil pasta
1 can chickpeas/garbanzo beans rinsed and drained
2 cups pre-washed kale/cabbage coleslaw blend- If you would like to replace it, simply use any coleslaw or broccoli slaw option. You may also use a mix of finely chopped kale, thin sliced cabbage and shredded carrots.
1.5 cups diced Persian or English cucumber
1 cup diced dill pickles
½ cup diced red onion
â…“ cup chopped fresh dill
For the dressing:
Âľ cup lowfat plain greek yogurt
2 tablespoon mayonnaise
ÂĽ cup dill pickle juice
ÂĽ cup chopped fresh dill
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon dried dill
½ teaspoon salt
ÂĽ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:
Cook pasta according to package instructions and rinse + drain chickpeas. Allow pasta to cool.
To a large bowl, add cooked pasta, chickpeas, kale slaw, cucumbers, pickles, red onion and fresh dill.
For the dressing: in a small bowl whisk together all the ingredients under the Dressing list. Instead of the fresh dill and dried dill and other dried ingredients/seasonings, you could use 2-3 tsp of Trader Joe's Dill Pickle Seasoning located by the other dry herbs/seasonings. Once fully combined- taste and adjust seasoning and vegetables to desired preferences.

With the help of our Obesity Caucus, effective immediately, the AMA has just elevated Obesity as a Public Health Priority.

What does this mean? Resolution 427 called on the AMA to elevate obesity in their strategic plan. This will put obesity on equal footing as other critical diseases including hypertension and pre-diabetes.

Thank you to American Medical Association Caucus members, and to the for placing their trust in me to represent them at the AMA.

Well done!
