Gum disease and respiratory diseases can be be connected. Bacterial respiratory infections are thought to be acquired through aspiration (inhaling) of fine droplets from the mouth and throat into the lungs.
These droplets contain germs that can breed and multiply within the lungs to cause damage. Recent research suggests that bacteria found in the throat, as well as bacteria found in the mouth, can be drawn into the lower respiratory tract. This can cause infections or worsen existing lung conditions.

I’ve gotten a lot of interesting question of the years, but here are three that stood out the most…and here are the answers.

You can only treat gum disease. Once the periodontal desires has taken hole, you have passed the stage of self-treatment.
Interdental brushing in itself will not stop periodontitis or gum disease. However, interdental brushing IS an integral part of a good oral health care routine.
Just because your gums are bleeding less or have stopped completely, it doesn’t mean your gum disease is gone. It is likely still presenting you have puffy or red gums.
