Most people get leverage wrong.

They either avoid it…
or use it in a way that breaks trust.

And people stay stuck.

Leverage isn’t about control.
It’s not punishment.

But when it’s missing or misused, change gets delayed.

We’re hosting a free roundtable on Loving Leverage™.

Real conversation.
Clinicians. Families. People in recovery.

One of the things that makes Valiant Living so special is our weekly time in the mountains.

This week we spent the day at the Cuetlachtepetl Wolf Mountain Education Center—getting our hands dirty with beautification projects, working side by side, building connection and purpose through simple, meaningful work.

Highlights included learning about Native American culture and history, and getting up close with the gentle, often misunderstood animals on the land—an experience that left a real impact.

The day culminated in a traditional sweat lodge ceremony—a deeply spiritual and transformative experience where they experienced honest surrender and healing.

These days hit different. This is what recovery can look like.

March is Gambling Awareness Month.

And the reality is, gambling has changed.

What used to require a trip to a casino now lives in your pocket. Sports betting apps, microbetting, and constant access have created an environment that is faster, more accessible, and more dangerous than most people realize.

Gambling addiction is often called the hidden addiction.
There are no physical signs early on.
But the impact can be devastating for individuals and families.

At Valiant Living, we are seeing this more and more.

That’s why we’re having this conversation.

We recently released Episode 58 of the Valiant Living Podcast featuring gambling addiction expert Chris Anderson, breaking down what’s happening and what people need to know.

Gambling has changed more than most people realize.

Today, you don’t need a casino, a bookie, or even a real event.

You can place bets anytime, anywhere, on virtually anything… all from your phone.

Multiple bets. Multiple platforms. Instant access.

This level of accessibility is creating a completely different environment, and it’s accelerating addiction in ways we’re just beginning to understand.

In Episode 58 of the Valiant Living Podcast, Chris Anderson explains how this shift is impacting individuals and families.

What makes gambling addiction different from every other addiction?

The next bet could win.

You can lose over and over again, rack up debt, and still believe:

“One more bet will fix everything.”

And sometimes, it does.

That’s what makes it so dangerous.

No other addiction offers the illusion that the solution to the problem is more of the problem.

In Episode 58, Chris Anderson explains why this belief keeps people stuck and why gambling addiction is so difficult to break.

We started in the dark.

A group of men showed up before sunrise and climbed together to watch the day begin. Some hadn’t slept much. One had only two hours. Still showed up.

At the top, they stood together and watched the sun rise. A moment many said they’ll carry with them for a long time.

Later, sitting near the Columbine memorial, the conversation got real. Honest reflections about recovery. Where they’ve been. Where they’re going.

But the most powerful part of the day happened back at Foxfield.

They rebuilt the labyrinth.

A new design. A “peace well” where stones represent loved ones, intentions, and what they’re choosing to leave behind.

As they worked, they learned about the men who built the original labyrinth three years ago. Men they’ve never met.

Still, they chose to honor them.

They added a stone with Jeff Biggs’ name. Shaped part of the space as a tribute.

No one asked them to.

This is what happens when men are given space to challenge themselves, connect, and be part of something bigger than themselves.

This is brotherhood.

“I don’t care how big a mess you’ve made of your life… there’s a way out.”

That’s not just a hopeful statement.
That’s a lived reality.

From sitting in a su***de ward, facing divorce, bankruptcy, and losing everything…
to nearly 40 years on the other side of recovery.

Stories like this matter because they remind us of something we often forget:

No situation is too far gone.

If you or someone you love feels stuck, there is still a path forward.

A victim mentality often appears in active addiction.
Stress may be real, but responsibility is still required.
When conversations constantly shift blame and accountability never lands, deeper intervention may be necessary.
Valiant Living’s men’s residential program provides structured accountability that supports lasting change.

Meeting Kyle Beard gave strength and structure to the vision. Kyle brings a wealth of business acumen wrapped in someone passionate about helping people heal. As a team Mike and Kyle balance each other in the creation and management of Valiant Living, a program designed for men who are truly ready for what we call “Expanded Recovery”. Our programming and housing allow men to feel safe and empowered as they dig deeper into themselves than most other programs ask.
