❄️ Ice Storm Warning – Community Update & Preparedness ❄️

The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for our area from Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1:00 pm through Monday, Jan. 26 at 7:00 pm. With temperatures expected to remain near or below freezing afterward, impacts could linger into next week.

Potential hazards may include:
⚠️ Power outages
⚠️ Falling limbs or trees
⚠️ Icy roads, walkways, balconies, and porches
⚠️ Travel challenges and limited accessibility

💙 Our Commitment to Resident Safety
Our leadership and operations teams are actively monitoring conditions and have already put multiple safety and comfort measures in place, including:

✔️ Emergency generators and charging stations in all main lobbies
✔️ Bottled water and additional food supplies on hand
✔️ Stairwell lighting staged in case of power outages
✔️ Gas Fireplaces available as warming areas
✔️ Salting primary entrances and walkways
✔️ On-site staff staying throughout the storm to assist residents
✔️ Transportation support for essential staff
✔️ Meal delivery plans if walkways become unsafe

🏠 How Residents Can Prepare
We encourage residents to take a few personal steps:
• Have extra blankets ready
• Keep flashlights and batteries handy
• Charge phones and medical devices
• Ensure medications are filled
• Maintain food and water supplies
• Prepare any personal essentials for limited mobility or power interruptions

🚨 Important Safety Reminders
• Please stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel
• Never run vehicles in closed garages
• Do not use grills or generators indoors
• Use space heaters cautiously and never unattended
• Report any hazards to Facility Services promptly

More than 60 residents and guests took part in a guided bourbon tasting last night that focused on learning, exploration, and appreciation of the craft.

Marketing Counselor Matt Koone led the experience, walking guests step-by-step through each tasting. He explained the purpose of using specialty bourbon glasses and guided participants through the aromas and flavors of each selection. Matt also shared background on each of the three selections, including where they were distilled and the tasting notes that made each pour unique.

Small plates with thoughtfully paired snacks were provided to highlight certain flavor notes and soften others, making the tasting more approachable for residents who may not typically enjoy bourbon on its own.

Special thanks to Pascal's Cafe & Grill for their partnership and for allowing us to use their bourbon glasses for the event.

It was a meaningful and engaging evening, and we look forward to offering more guided tasting and educational experiences like this in the future. 🥃
