We are proud to announce the McDonald Education Endowment, established through a generous gift from longtime GGC supporters Jim and Jane McDonald.

This new fund will sustain the operations and programming of GGC’s Education Division — including school trips by our Gene Machine and Helix Express mobile science labs — ensuring that students across South Carolina continue to experience hands-on learning in genetics.

In recognition of their decades of service and leadership, GGC’s Genetic Education Center student laboratory will be named in honor of Jim and Jane McDonald.

Their belief in the power of education will continue to inspire discovery, curiosity, and compassion for generations to come.

We’re excited to announce that GGC has received a $156,000 research grant from the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation to accelerate diagnosis and treatment for Sanfilippo syndrome (MPS IIIA & IIIB) — a rare, devastating disorder sometimes called “childhood Alzheimer’s.”

Led by Dr. Rich Steet, GGC’s team will develop the first-ever functional cell-based platform to better understand genetic variants and test nearly 1,800 FDA-approved drugs for potential new treatments.

This collaboration brings new hope to families facing Sanfilippo syndrome and advances our mission to combine cutting-edge science with compassionate care.
