Recently, we had the privilege of caring for a patient who came to CRHS after surviving a stroke. A lifelong ballroom dancer, he brought his passion for dance into therapy—spending sessions practicing a variety of ballroom steps along the way. When he arrived, he required the assistance of two people for all ADLs and transfers. By discharge, he was fully independent with ADLs, stairs, and mobility—without the use of an assistive device. An incredible journey of resilience, dedication, and movement. 💃🕺

Meet Mr. Mark! When he first arrived at CRHS after his stroke, he needed help from two people just to move, and his global aphasia made it difficult for him to understand or express anything. On day one, he wasn’t able to stand upright or answer questions.

But after three weeks of dedicated PT, OT, and speech therapy—and with incredible support from his family—Mark made outstanding progress. By his final day, he was walking 300 feet with a walker, standing on his own, and completing most daily activities with only minimal assistance. His cognition and communication also improved tremendously from where he started.

We learned from his family that he usually plays Santa for a local organization’s Christmas party each year. Since he may not be ready for that role this season, he brought the holiday spirit to us instead—showing up as a spooky Santa for our CRHS Halloween party and leading the parade! 🎃🎅

We’re so proud of Mark and wish him all the best as he continues his recovery! 💙
