🌷 April is Parkinson's Awareness Month β€” and it hits close to home for a lot of Upstate families.
Have you noticed a parent's handwriting getting smaller? A tremor that wasn't there before? A voice that seems softer lately?
These things get explained away easily. But sometimes, they're early signs of Parkinson's disease β€” and the earlier it's caught, the more options your family has.

πŸ”΅ Early warning signs to know:
πŸ‘‰ Tremors or shaking
πŸ‘‰ Slowed movement
πŸ‘‰ Stiff or rigid muscles
πŸ‘‰ Balance or posture changes
πŸ‘‰ Changes in speech or handwriting

We wrote a short post to help families know what to look for:

πŸ“£ Upstate Families β€” Your Voice Is Needed!

Right now, the South Carolina Association of Area Agencies on Aging is collecting responses for the 2026 Statewide Needs Assessment β€” a survey that happens only once every four years and directly shapes the services and funding available to seniors across our state.

Here's why it matters: the results influence how resources are allocated to programs right here in Greenville, Greer, Spartanburg, and the surrounding Upstate communities. More responses = stronger advocacy = better care for our local seniors. It really is that simple.

Whether you're a family caregiver, a senior yourself, or someone who works alongside older adults β€” please consider taking a few minutes to share your experience.

βœ… The survey is completely FREE and takes just a few minutes.
βœ… A paper version is available for those who prefer it.
βœ… You can scan the QR code on the flyer below to complete it online.

We at Connections to Care are collecting completed paper surveys on behalf of our community. If you or your loved one would prefer a paper copy, reach out β€” we're happy to help make that happen before the June deadline!

πŸ’™ **FRIDAY Q&A | Who Can Benefit from Care Management?**

If you've ever thought, *"I'm not sure we're at that point yet"* β€” this one's for you.

Care management isn't just for crisis moments. It's for **any family** that wants a trusted guide in their corner before things get overwhelming. Here in the Upstate, we see it every day β€” adult children juggling jobs, kids, and aging parents, often from across the state or across the country.

Care management can make a real difference for:

βœ”οΈ Older adults who want to stay home as long as possible
βœ”οΈ Individuals living with chronic illness or disabilities
βœ”οΈ Those recovering from a hospital stay or rehab
βœ”οΈ Anyone dealing with memory loss or cognitive changes
βœ”οΈ Families who live far away and worry constantly
βœ”οΈ Anyone tangled up in complex healthcare or support systems

As Atul Gawande reminds us in *Being Mortal* β€” what matters most isn't just safety. It's **autonomy, dignity, and quality of life.** A good care manager helps protect all three.

At **Connections to Care**, that's exactly what we do. We help Greenville-area families find clarity, confidence, and peace of mind β€” at every stage of the aging journey.

Have you noticed your mom seems less like herself lately? πŸ˜”

Maybe she's not as interested in her favorite shows. Maybe your dad's phone calls have gotten shorter. Maybe the neighbor who used to wave from her porch every afternoon has gone quiet.

It's easy to chalk it up to "just getting older."
But here's what we know: loneliness is one of the most serious β€” and most overlooked β€” health risks facing seniors today. And during the shorter, grayer months of the year, it hits harder than most families realize.

The good news? You don't have to have all the answers. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is make sure your loved one has a consistent, caring presence in their life β€” someone who shows up, sits with them, and makes the day feel a little less quiet.

That's exactly what we do at Connections to Care. πŸ’™

We serve families right here in Greenville and across the Upstate β€” and we'd love to have a real conversation about what support might look like for yours.

🌟 March is National Social Work Month β€” and we're taking a moment to say THANK YOU.

This month's theme says it all: Uplift. Defend. Transform.

Here in the Upstate, we see that every single day. Social workers are quietly showing up in our hospitals, our schools, our senior centers β€” and in the homes of families who are doing their best to care for an aging parent and simply need someone in their corner.

At Connections to Care, we work alongside some incredible social workers right here in Greenville. They're the ones who make the phone calls families don't know to make, who connect a daughter in Simpsonville with resources she didn't know existed, and who sit with a family during one of the hardest seasons of their lives.

If you're caring for an aging parent and feeling overwhelmed β€” you don't have to figure it out alone. That's exactly what we're here for.

πŸ’š To every social worker in the Upstate: what you do matters more than you know.

πŸ“ž Questions about caring for an aging loved one? We'd love to help.
