ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - May 1, 2013) - As a sweet thank you for the remarkable service nurses provide, Cinnabon and The DAISY Foundation are celebrating National Nurses' Week by offering nurses free CinnabonĀ® cinnamon rolls* when they show their healthcare badges at participating bakeries May 6-12, 2013. In addition to the Classic Roll, nurses this year can receive a MinibonĀ® Roll, a smaller version of the world famous Cinnabon cinnamon roll.
The Nurses Week celebration is an extension of the Cinnabon support for The DAISY Foundation, a non-profit organization created to honor the extraordinary care that nurses provide on a daily basis. Throughout the year, more than 1,450 participating healthcare organizations worldwide honor their nurses with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses as recognition for their tireless work for patients and families. Winning nurses receive free Cinnabon cinnamon rolls for their entire unit as part of the DAISY Award celebration. The DAISY Award has been given to more than 35,000 nurses to date and over 200,000 nurses have been nominated.
Bonnie and Mark Barnes established The DAISY Foundation to recognize nurses after their adult son, Patrick, died of complications from an auto-immune disease. During his hospital stay, Patrick would eat very little, but he loved and craved Cinnabon cinnamon rolls. Each day his family would bring him a Cinnabon cinnamon roll, and Patrick insisted they bring enough for all of the nurses too. This serves as the inspiration for the Cinnabon and DAISY Foundation partnership.
"Our mission at the DAISY Foundation is to express our profound gratitude to nurses for the work they do for patients and their families every day," said Tena Barnes, Patrick's wife. "We can't think of a better way to celebrate Pat's life than by sharing his favorite treat -- a Cinnabon cinnamon roll -- with those who helped make the hardest time in our lives a bit sweeter."
"Each year we look forward to honoring nurses across the nation who dedicate their time to bettering the lives of others," said Kristen Hartman, Vice President of Marketing at Cinnabon. "We hope offering free Cinnabon cinnamon rolls will help remind them how special they truly are, and how thankful we are for what they do."
Hartman adds, "This year, our goal is to give out even more rolls than last year and continue to strengthen the Cinnabon and DAISY relationship, and most importantly, acknowledge and reward nurses for their dedication to their profession."
For more information about the Nurses Week promotion or to learn more about the DAISY Foundation, please visit www.cinnabon.com or www.DAISYFoundation.org.
* Limit one (1) free Classic or Minibon roll per nurse during the promotional period. Valid only at participating U.S. bakeries. Not valid at airports or travel plazas. No purchase necessary.

It's Time to Value the Invaluable, Say thank you, Nurses

TORONTO, May 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Sixty-thousand Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) members are preparing to celebrate the invaluable contributions nurses make to health care as Nursing Week 2013 approaches.
ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN and members of ONA's board of directors will attend events throughout the week of May 6 to 12 to mark Nursing Week, held each year in conjunction with the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
"Nursing Week continues to be an opportunity to celebrate the unique and year-round dedication and achievements of nurses," says Haslam-Stroud.
"We have chosen the theme 'Value the Invaluable' for Nursing Week 2013 as it recognizes the incredible value RNs bring to our health care system, and our members' commitment to providing the best care possible for the people of Ontario," she says.
ONA continues to urge members to honour and celebrate the achievements of Ontario's nurses. It's also an opportunity to raise awareness among Ontarians about nursing cuts that are impacting patient care.
"Nursing cuts continue to be a serious matter in Ontario," notes Haslam-Stroud. "We must take action to stop the cuts to nursing positions and hours of care, to address staff shortages and harsh working conditions that threaten the quality of care, and to respect and value Ontario's nurses for their professionalism and dedication."
ONA is the union representing 60,000 front-line registered nurses, nurse practitioners, registered practical nurses and allied health professionals as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in Ontario hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, industry and clinics.

Description of the sinus cavity

They are lined with a complex mucous membrane called the mucous covered in epithelium; the latter is involved in the absorption and secretion of various substances. This membrane lining swells and thickens when irritated, creating mucus to repel whatever is irritating them, e.g., pollen particles. Which in turn can produce an allergy reaction and pressure in the cavities. All the sinuses have a small opening called ostium, which connects with the nasal cavity. When their lining membrane swells it can block these small openings and stop the flow of and air to and from the nasal cavity, thus creating pressure and pain. Should this condition remain for more than a few days the mucus can stagnate and become a breeding ground for a bacterial infection. When this mucus is eventually released some of it it can appear as green snot. In some cases this type of infection can require an antibiotic to eradicate the culprit germ, otherwise it could spread and infect other respiratory organs in the chest area and in some cases produce phlegm, if the immune system gets overloaded, and can develop into a case of bronchitis. It can all start from a simple cold un cared for, sinus headache, or sinus pressure allowed to continue for several days unattended.
