Indigenous Peoples Day Statement
Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians
October 13, 2025
Today, on Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the enduring strength, wisdom, and resilience of Indigenous communities across Turtle Island. For the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, this day is a powerful reminder of our ancestors’ courage, our cultural survival, and our continued commitment to sovereignty, justice, and the well-being of our people.
Our story is one of perseverance—from our ancestral homelands in the Hudson River Valley to our present-day community in Wisconsin. Despite centuries of displacement and adversity, we have remained rooted in our traditions, languages, and values. We continue to thrive, uplift our youth and elders, protect our lands, and advocate for the rights of all Indigenous peoples.
Indigenous Peoples Day is not only a celebration—it is a call to action. It is a time to reflect on the truths of our shared history, to recognize the contributions of Native nations, and to recommit ourselves to building a future grounded in respect, equity, and healing.
We invite all people to join us in honoring the legacy of our ancestors and the vibrant cultures of Indigenous nations. Let this day be a moment of unity, remembrance, and renewal.
