With sympathy and love, we announce the passing of:

Mrs. Mable L. Davis
May 8, 1952 - February 25, 2026

Mrs. Mable L. Davis, 73 of Chatham, Virginia departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at her residence.

Born May 8, 1952, in Reidsville, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Percy Lester and Marie B. Neal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Sherman Lester and James Lester; one granddaughter, Shaniya A. Young; two step grandsons, Elijah Kirby and Ammarion Harris; one sister, Helen Fitzgerald; and three sisters-in-law, Deloris Witcher, Clara Jean Adkins and Shirley Davis.

Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, North Carolina. She was last employed by Pittsylvania County Schools, where she worked at Chatham High School for twenty-one years. Mrs. Davis was a member of Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, Chatham, Virginia.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Acie Davis, Jr. of the residence; three children, Joseph Brumfield of Chatham, Virginia, Linda Jones (Jermaine) and Sereta Dublin (Jamel), both of Danville, Virginia; four stepchildren, Marvin Harris of Rocky Mount, Virginia, Sammy Harris, Melissa Harris Mendenhall (Curtis) and Kimberly Harris, all of Danville, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Jerry Cardwell, III, Sha'Quan Jones, Robert Jones, Jr., Jay'Meel Jones, Shauntae Jones and Ta'Juan Saunders, Jai'Niyah Jones, Len'Niyah Jones and Sierra Young "CC", all of Danville, Virginia; numerous great grandchildren; four step grandchildren, Samuel DaeShaun Harris and Anasia Kirby, both of Danville, Virginia, Malik Harris and Chelsea Harris, both of Rocky Mount, Virginia; two brothers, Amos Beck of Ft. Washington, Maryland and Earnest Lester of Laurel, Maryland; three sisters-in-law, Lillian Craft of Gretna, Virginia, Maria Harris of Danville, Virginia and Kaite Leftwich (PL) of Dry Fork, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Miss Willie Mae Graves, 83 of Nathalie, Virginia departed this earthly life on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at her residence.

Born March 24, 1942, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Graves and Alice Gilbert. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and one daughter-in-law.

Ms. Joyce Eliza Davis Sowell

Ms. Joyce Eliza Davis Sowell, 64 of Glade Hill, Virginia entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at her residence.

Born October 9, 1961, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late William Leonard Davis, Sr. and Geraldine Terry Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Nolan Davis and Willie Thomas Davis.

Ms. Sowell attended Franklin County High School and Strayer University. She worked with the Department of State and the passport office in Washington, DC before her retirement.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Allison Denise Davis (Julie) of San Diego, California and Johnetta Phillece Sowell of Glade Hill, Virginia; her siblings, Ronald Terry of Roanoke, Virginia, William L. Mrs. Bernida Whitehead Anderson
February 7, 1950 - February 5, 2026

Mrs. Bernida "Bird" Anderson, 75 of Richmond, Virginia passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026.

Born on February 7, 1950, in Chatham, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Voil and Willie Martin Whitehead.

Mrs. Anderson was raised with the values of hard work and family devotion that shaped her life. She began her professional career at Klopman Mills in Altavista, Virginia, before continuing her career at the Internal Revenue Service in Richmond, Virginia. Her dedication and reliability left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends until her retirement.

Bernida’s greatest joy came from caring for her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Larry B. Anderson Sr., who stood by her side through life’s many seasons; her son, Larry B Anderson Jr,(Michelle); one daughter,Takisha Handsome and son-in-law Eddie Handsome; her beloved grandson, Ethan Handsome; her sisters, Patricia Hariston (Charles) and Denise Whitehead; one niece, Martina Wheatfall (Johnathan); two great nieces, Sloan and Sage; and a host of extended family and friends who also mourn her passing with deep affection.

Ms. Minnie Lewis Wimbish
March 21, 1951 - February 9, 2026

Ms. Minnie Lewis Wimbish, 74 of Pittsville, Virginia departed this earthly life on Monday, February 9, 2026, at her residence.

Born March 21, 1951, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Mitchell "Johnny" Lewis and Minnie Kelly Lewis.

Ms. Wimbish was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hurt, Virginia. She was employed by Walmart in Altavista, Virginia for more than twenty years, where she was well known for her warm smile and willingness to assist every customer she encountered.

She was previously married to the late George T. Wimbish for forty years.

Cherishing her memory are Jonathan “Barry” Wimbish (Candace), Jonathan “Johnny” Payne-Wimbish II, Jonathan Barrett Payne-Wimbish III, Monece Barbour, Aurora Moon; George Wimbish, Jr., Erika Wimbish (Megan), Jamari Slayton, Camden Fore, Derrick Wimbish (Ashley), Derrick Wimbish, Jr., Colton Wimbish, Waylon Wimbish, Destynee Wimbish, Luna Vereen, Mykel Wimbish. Mother Mary Patrick Crews
March 6, 1944 - February 9, 2026

Mother Mary Patrick Crews, 81 of Goode, Virginia transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Centra Gretna Medical Center.

Born March 6, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Patrick and Martha Lipford Patrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dallas Crews; her sisters, Darlene Reynolds and Jeanette Patrick; and one brother, Dave Patrick.

Mother Crews was educated in Pittsylvania County Public Schools. She served as the bookkeeper and clerk for the family business, Crews Janitorial Service. She was also previously employed by McCormic Foods and Roses.

Mother Crews was the loving and devoted wife to Bishop Edward Montague Crews. She was baptized and became a member of The Glorious Church in 1958. Bishop and Mother Crews were called to lead the congregation at Burning Bush Holiness Church in Pittsville, Virginia in 1966. At Burning Bush, Mother Crews was a Sunday school teacher and worked with the Youth Department. She was devoted along with her husband to do God’s work. In1977, Mother Crews and her husband founded a church with dedicated members in Bedford, Virginia, The Outreach Church of Jesus Christ. She organized and was very instrumental along with her husband to reach members in the town of Bedford and surrounding counties by witnessing to bring people to Jesus. Mother Crews continued to be a missionary, sharing the good news of Jesus, and strengthening each individual that she encountered.

Those left to cherish her memory her husband of sixty-seven years, Bishop Edward Montague Crews; her children, Don Holland Crews (Cleo Selina Murrell Crews), Elder Timothy Crews, Sr. (Leading Lady Danielle Crews) and Dr. Vivacious “Ladybird” Crews; her grandchildren, Precious Scott (Overseer Cecil Scott), Matthew Crews (Amanda Crews), Pastor Tim Crews, Jr. (First Lady Chiantia Crews), André Crews (Sinéad Crews), Joshua Crews (Chaka Crews), Ashley Crews, Shalinda Crews (fiancé José Gonzalez), Princessa Crews, Zephania Crews, and Obadiah Edward Montague Crews; her great grandchildren, París Célie Scott, Dyoneilis (DJ) Crews Chavez, Jordan Eli Crews, Chloé Elizabeth Scott, Onesimus Crews, Daquan (Jr.) Duncan, Cecil Scott II, Tallulah Crews, Rose Crews, Noa Mary Grace Crews, Jameson Bishop Crews, and Noah Amari Crews; her siblings, Arthur Patrick, Margaret Jennings (Morrell), Rebecca Mitchell, Sarah Patrick (Bernard), Doretha Price, Betty Petty, Susan Scott “Lump”, Frances Gregory (James), Catherine Wainwright (James), Charlie “Ed” Patrick (Joan), and Melvin Patrick; one aunt, Lucy Lipford; her beloved church family, The Outreach Church of Jesus Christ; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. David Floyd Slayton, Jr., 43 of Long Island, Virginia departed this earthly life on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born February 7, 1982, in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the son of David F. Slayton, Sr. and Barbara Hubbard Slayton of Long Island, Virginia.

He confessed hope in Jesus Christ and was baptized in July 1992, where he became a member of Staunton Baptist Church.
