This is a heavy topic, but one that needs to be discussed due to the severe stigma attached to it. Most eating disorders involve body dysmorphia (mental illness involving obsessive focus on a perceived flaw in appearance), so things such as “just eat and you’ll be fine” contribute to the worsening of their symptoms. Pleasure refrain from saying anything invalidating to someone struggling with this. If you know anyone who is suffering from an eating disorder, be a friend to them. Empathy and friendship go a long ways.

Below are some resources if you or someone you know are struggling. You’re not alone!

•National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders: http://www.anad.org/ANAD
•Eating Disorders Anonymous: http://www.eatingdisordersanonymous.org/
•National Eating Disorders Association: http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/webinars

Journaling is so therapeutic for the mind and soul. It’s a safe space for you to both face and learn things about yourself. If you need some help, try some of these journaling prompts:
-what is one event that changed your perspective?
-did something make you feel happy today? What about sad? If so, why?
-What are your strengths and weakness in relationships with people?
Try journaling today, and you might be surprised at just how much you write.

Self care is so important! It helps us take care of our body and mind (or soul, as some people say). It also helps us not get burned out and can make us feel refreshed. Here are some self care ideas in case you need some examples. I encourage you to make a list of all the things you could do to take care of yourself and try to do 1 of those items everyday! Feel free to post a picture of your self care and tag us so we can spread the habit of caring for ourselves! 🥰

Hello, my name is Katelyn Macias! I am the newest intern of the Rising Heights Counseling staff. I am currently studying at Florida Atlantic University but plan on earning my masters elsewhere and then becoming a counselor afterwards! My major is psychology but I am minoring in photography. As an intern, I create graphics and videos for social media, and conduct some of the ESA consults and intakes for new clients. I will be interning for about a year, and I'm so excited to be part of the staff!
