Happy Winter Solstice! Today is the shortest day of the year and the longest night. The solstice is a time of reflection and rebirth. You may already be feeling the need for more rest and introspection. What would happen if we listened to that? What would it feel like? To be still and to disconnect from electronics and spend some time in the wintery stillness and quiet of nature? Perhaps take some time to reflect on the last year...all you have accomplished and all of the challenges you have faced. Maybe even write them down and ceremoniously let them go by destroying. This letting go creates space for the light, for the longer days, almost like a rebirth. Just imagine what dreams can be filled with this space! What are the aspirations for the next year? Imagine this...see it in your minds eye...it is possible. I would love to hear your accomplishments and aspirations...please share if your inspired!

The winter solstice, also known as the shortest day and longest night in the year, will occur this Wednesday, December 21, when the East Coast will see only nine hours and 15 minutes of daylight. But don't bust out the electric blanket and make unbreakable plans with your Netflix account just yet.

Day 4: kindness challenge ... Today I brought my neighbors garbage can to the side of the house as its been sitting by the road for a few days. Also a friend mentioned to me today "isn't it strange that we have to make a point to be kind to others sometimes, especially when life gets busy or challenging?" Definitely!!! I am so much more aware of it knowing I will post here. Awareness is a beautiful thing.

With so much out there in the world that is difficult to hear and see, it is very easy to begin to get stuck in a spiral of thoughts that are "negative". The Dalai Lama says "Just as heat dispels cold, loving-kindness counters anger. We need to learn how to counter our various emotions. Distraction is just a temporary measure. The longer lasting remedy is to be able to see positive qualities in something or someone you otherwise see as negative. Since there is rarely any justification for destructive emotions, we need to become aware of what gives rise to them and what the antidotes are."

I saw a meme today that said “May the space between where I am and where I want to be inspire me.” This truly sums up how I have felt since starting to focus more on my intentions each day rather than obsessing about the gym and food. Allowing space for me to reflect on my goals in a positive way and allowing all those moments in-between to be framed in a more positive light allows me to feel inspired where I’d like to. Many of you have been following my journey to lose 20 pounds. Well, I have to tell you, it's tough. Honestly, losing the weight isn't that hard -- over the last year and a half I have probably lost 60 pounds in total. The problem is I keep gaining and losing, gaining and losing. I have been half a pound away from the 20 pound goal on numerous occasions and then something in life happens and I gain a few pounds, that turns into 5 and then I make some excuses and say I'll start again next week...and then I start in two weeks or a month and I'm up 10pounds from where I was.
