ITāS OFFICIAL š
I started this process about 9 months ago after being approached by a colleague and current board member. Applications, phone interviews, zoom interviews and lots of waiting. I hadnāt interviewed for anything in almost 20 years. It was crazy outside my comfort zone. I persevered through my fear, knowing we find growth in the things that terrify us. I received the phone call yesterday, the Governor would be announcing my appointment at 4pm today. I was asked to keep my appointment confidential until the official announcement and press release. I waited and now itās official, Iām the newest RDO to serve on The California State Board of Optometry. My new position will have me at the State Capital advocating consumer protection policies and legislation in my field.
This is a civil service position, so no worries, things should be business as usual at my shop. The appointment will occupy 20-30 hrs a month of my time and require quarterly visits to the State Capital.
Iām honored and excited to get the opportunity to serve in such a prestigious and meaningful way.
My next steps, Oath of Office and Political Ethics Training and then off to The State Capitol for my first Board meeting in July.
I canāt stop smiling and feel great pride and gratitude. Oh, and a moderate amount of trepidationā¦ā¦
