Sacred Shimmy Studio is a group of movement artists with a point of view. We stay mad about the systems of oppression that limit human potential and turn people into consumers, competitors, and warmongers.

Some people believe politics has no place in dance, but we disagree. To that end, we've created an hour-long set of revolutionary bangers to welcome you to the Anarchist Cafe, presented by La Belle Musette and . This is your chance to see bellydancers get down to songs against ICE, fascism, and the war machine.

Admission is free. Playlist and songbooks will be provided. Get into it.

There's a great big bellydance show in Columbus this weekend!

For the first set, Athena Howe gathered seven choreographers to create one epic performance to the classic Oum Kalsoum song "Essal Rohak."

Sacred Shimmy is performing in the second set, where we'll unveil the most dynamic sword choregraphy we've created so far.

$10 is a tiny price to pay for all the entertainment your eyes will have to take in - don't miss it!

It's swag pickup day at Sacred Shimmy Studio! I'm small business owner, so I like to support other small business owners with my merch decisions. All of our artwork was drawn by Ohio artist . My printer is Sports Plus Graphics, a woman-owned business I've been working with for 10 years. I always stop at Crispie Creme donuts, a 97-year-old bakery. Then it's back home where Zach and I do all the processing and shipping from our living room. It's all worth it when I get to see how fierce everybody looks in their gear!

Tomorrow is Sacred Shimmy Studio's 7th birthday!

Before opening this space, I taught in my apartments, my friends' houses, a new age bookstore, a ballet studio, a fancy Short North yoga studio, a fancy downtown wellness spa, a poorly-run downtown yoga studio, a theatre basement, an artist collective, and probably some other places I don't even remember now. Which of those spots do you remember?

In the last seven years, this space has been a thriving wellness center, an events space, an online filming studio, a music studio, a rehearsal space, and the number one place to hear accordion practice in the Greater Columbus area.

Just about every year, I think it's the last one. Then we all keep showing up, and we breathe and bend and stretch and dance. We laugh until we cry or cry until we laugh, and even with every other available option there's still nothing else I would rather do with my life.
