Gulf Breeze Therapy

Gulf Breeze Therapy “Play, laughter and connection are the essential ingredients to create joy in our lives. Through His gentle approach and peaceful demeanor are legendary.

Therapeutic Methods

My therapeutic methods and philosophies are resiliency-based, experiential, child-centered, developmental, relational, and humanistic. My objective is to achieve connection, empowerment and thriving for my clients and their families. I choose to use play therapy, and animal assisted psychotherapy techniques in helping people heal. As a trained generalist clinical social worker my credo is: “start where the client is,” to provide the most appropriate interventions in my mental health toolbox based on the client’s age, preferences, and particular needs. Experience

I began working in the counseling field in 1994, and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2011. In 2016, I made the decision to give back to the field of social work by mentoring beginning therapists as a Qualified Clinical Supervisor. Since that time, I have transitioned 5 Registered Clinical Social Worker Interns into Licensed Clinical Social Workers. Education

Chief is spending time lazing in the playroom preparing for the CDC to release therapy dogs to return to real-life contact. We are so hopeful this will happen very, very soon! We'd like to share about Animal Assisted Play Therapy (AAPT) and the special credentialing/skills involved in our work as a CAAPT team.

AAPT has been defined as “the integrated involvement of animals in the context of play therapy, in which appropriately-trained therapists and animals engage with child, family, & adult clients primarily in play interventions aimed at improving the client’s psychosocial health, while simultaneously ensuring the animal’s well-being and voluntary engagement in the process. Play and playfulness are essential ingredients of the interactions & the relationship” (VanFleet, 2013). The feature that most distinguishes AAPT from other forms of animal assisted therapy (Chandler, 2012; Fine, 2010) is the systematic inclusion and encouragement of play and playfulness as the primary means of expressing feelings, developing relationships, and resolving psychosocial problems (VanFleet, 2008; VanFleet & Faa-Thompson, 2010, 2014).

Years of training and credentialing, for both myself and Chief, have culminated in being able to offer this service to our community. Please contact Gulf Breeze Therapy if you'd like to talk about how play therapy and AAPT can benefit your family!

Play is a child's language, toys are their words. Play therapy is speaking the language and allowing the child to express their heart through play. Please contact us if you want to know more about play therapy and how it can promote healing and change for all ages!
