There are four weeks left in 2025. The average person lives about 4,000 weeks.
What you choose to say yes to, and what you choose to say no to, is what gives your life meaning. In his book 4,000 Weeks, Oliver Burkeman invites us to reframe FOMO into JOMO. In this busy season, it’s easy to be consumed by the fear of missing out or the pressure of being stretched too thin. Instead, consider that your choices- how, where, what, and with whom you spend your time- carry tremendous value. You chose them above everything else. That choice is what gives each moment meaning.
So rather than wishing you could be in two places at once, embrace the joy of missing out. Give your full presence to the moment you chose to be part of. Find strength in offering yourself and others the gift of your attention, and resist being distracted by imagined alternatives.
As the year winds down, may you lean into gratitude for the power you have to choose how you spend your time. Yes, time can be viewed as a currency—but in this reflective season, consider that time also uses you. How will you allow time to use you to bring meaning to the close of your calendar year?
“We have a limited amount of time. We are a limited amount of time.”
