When the Apollo missions went to the moon, reports of flashes were made by multiple astronauts. Upon return, no retinal defects were seen. It was theorized that cosmic rays may have triggered the retina or visual cortex - the phenomena happening when outside the earth's electromagnetic shield.
For Apollo 16 & 17, an experiment was devised, astronauts would wear a box with x-ray film lining the sides for about an hour when off-duty. The boxes recorded 16 cosmic ray penetrations. Two of them correlated to time the astronauts recorded seeing a flash.
We haven't heard if the Artemis II crew reported any flashes at the time of this posting.
