You can prevent or slow down some cases of myopia.

We support the recommendation to get your kids outside an average 2+ hours / day.

It's also good for physical fitness, obesity prevention, diabetes, hypertension, mental health and a couple dozen more benefits.

One in three children are now short-sighted or unable to see things in the distance clearly, a global study has found. Short-sightedness, or myopia, is a gro...

This Saturday, Oklahoma will experience a partial annular eclipse.

What is an annular eclipse?

An annular eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth while it is at it's farthest point away from the Earth. Because the moon is far away from the sun, it appears smaller than usual and does not completely block out the sun. This creates a "ring" effect in the sky.

Stay safe when viewing the partial eclipse by wearing proper eye protection!

How do you stay safe during the partial solar eclipse on October 14, 2023?

Use Solar Eclipse glasses, which are specialized filters that are designed to protect your eyes when viewing a partial or total solar eclipse. They are MUCH different than sunglasses and are specifically designed to protect your eyes from permanent vision loss and damage from viewing an eclipse.

Safety tips according to NASA:
-use only solar eclipse glasses when viewing an eclipse
-make sure that your solar eclipse glasses are compliant with "ISO 12312-2" (the international safety standard)
-inspect your glasses for any holes/tears/scratches; if you see any, throw them away and get new ones!
-do not use solar eclipse glasses with cameras, telescopes or binoculars; these require specific solar filters

FYI for our astronomy enthusiasts!

Guthrie will experience a partial annular solar eclipse on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The solar eclipse will begin at 10:21 AM and end at 1:22 PM. The maximum effect will be seen at 11:48 AM with the sun approximately 75% covered!

Make sure that you stay safe when viewing the eclipse! Eclipse glasses are specially designed to block the harmful rays of the sun when viewing an eclipse, so that you don't get permanent damage to your eyes. NEVER look through an unfiltered telescope, camera, binocular or other optical device.
