Sharon K. Scott

MONTICELLO, IOWA

Sharon Kaye Scott, 82, ran into heaven and into Jesus’ waiting embrace on April 20, 2026. She is joyously celebrating her new eternal life with her Savior and all her beloved family and friends who crossed over before her and welcomed her into heaven. It’s not goodbye - it’s see you later.

Her legacy of love and strength will carry on in the lives of everyone who was privileged to know her. From Sharon’s own words in a book she was reading and journaling in on the love of her family: “I was so happy and excited on becoming a mother all three times! I loved being a mother and a homemaker! Angela, Amy, and Alison were my life for so many years. Sometimes I thought they would never grow up - the years seemed to pass slowly - then all of a sudden, they were all gone with families of their own. Now it seems like I had them only a small part of my life. They’ve taught me so many things, and I hope they’ve learned from me. Words can never express how very much I love them and the beautiful grandchildren they’ve blest me with!” Again, Sharon describes it best regarding her incredible strength and tenaciousness in overcoming life’s challenges: “Climbing a mountain is hard work. You have to fight through the weather and pain and deal with problems as they come. Many refuse to climb mountains because of this. But for those who do face the challenge, they are not only rewarded by the accomplishment of overcoming challenges, but also the beauty that can only be seen from up top. Much like this, if we want to complete a purpose or dream, we often have to conquer our difficulties and challenges.”

Sharon’s passion in her free time was art, and she was an extremely accomplished artist creating countless paintings during her lifetime. She was even offered an art scholarship to college after her high school graduation. She was very adept at any art medium she put her hand to - pencil, acrylic, leatherworking, pen & ink, macrame, crochet - oil painting was the process that gave her the greatest joy though. She spent hours at her painting table mixing and perfecting the right colors, and applying the layers to get the perfect detail. Her paintings adorn homes, offices, and businesses throughout the world! She loved gifting her artwork to the people she loved. Her art continues to bring joy to those who are blessed to see it.

She was born June 1, 1943, in Monticello, IA, to Leamon Scott and Ione Scott (Bender). She graduated from Monticello High School and Northeast Iowa Community College, with a degree in Respiratory Therapy. She is the mother of 3 daughters, Angela (Travis), Amy, and Alison (Tim). She has 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was married to Marvin Von Sprecken, and later, Tom Schuster. She was preceded in death by her daughter Amy Von Sprecken, her father, Leamon, and her mother, Ione, as well as several close friends.

Sharon gave her all to everyone in life, and even in death. She has donated her body to the University of Iowa and the Iowa Donor Network for study, education, and use to enable others to have healthier, long lives. A service will be planned by her family sometime in the future. Donations in her honor may be made to the Iowa Donor Network or the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.

Jeffrey M. Jacobs

ELKADER, IOWA

Jeffrey Myron “Jake” Jacobs, 66 of Elkader, Iowa, formerly of DeWitt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at home with his loving wife, Cheryl, by his side. Jeff was diagnosed with Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma in 2023. Throughout his journey, he carried the mindset of “it is what it is” and “everything will work out.” He was right — everything did work out. Jeff is now at peace with his Lord and Savior.

Jeff was born March 4, 1960, in Davenport, Iowa, the eldest son of Jerome “Jerry” and Lois (Paulsen) Jacobs. He was confirmed at St. John’s–Bliedorn Church in Grand Mound, Iowa. On March 8, 1997, he married Cheryl Sullivan at St. John’s–Bliedorn. Jeff lovingly raised Cheryl’s sons, Jason and Jeremy Sullivan, as his own, and in June 1998, welcomed daughter Caitlyn, completing the family he cherished deeply.

He graduated from DeWitt High School in 1978, where he participated in basketball and baseball. Jeff was an active member of the DeWitt FFA Chapter and earned his Iowa State FFA Degree. His dedication to agriculture and community continued through his involvement with the Welton Jr. Farmers 4-H Club, Welton Lions Club, and the Welton Fire Department. He was also a lifetime member of the National FFA Alumni Association. He spent his entire life working in agriculture, a passion that shaped both his career and his family. Alongside farming and raising Purebred Hampshire hogs, he owned and operated a landscaping and greenhouse business. He built a home for his family in Calamus, Iowa, creating a place filled with hard work, love, and lasting memories.

He proudly supported his two sons and daughter as they showed cattle throughout their 4-H and FFA years, always encouraging their growth and dedication. Through his example, he instilled a strong work ethic, perseverance, and a deep respect for agriculture in all three of his children, inspiring them to develop passions of their own within the industry.

He shared everything he knew about cattle with his daughter — knowledge, values, and traditions that will now live on as she carries forward the legacy of the family farm.

Jeff loved sports in every form. He played men’s senior baseball and proudly participated in the Senior League World Series in Arizona. He refereed countless youth basketball games, giving back to younger generations through his love of athletics. Golf was another passion, and some of his favorite memories were made teaching his family how to play and enjoying time together on the course.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Elkader, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at Garnavillo Community Cemetery in Garnavillo, Iowa.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father-in-law.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cheryl; daughter, Caitlyn (Nashua Lansing) of Elkader, Iowa; son, Jason (Haley) Sullivan and grandchildren Elsa, Jory, and Judd of Lost Nation, Iowa; son, Jeremy (Megan) Sullivan and grandchildren C**t and Winston of Preston, Iowa; parents, Jerome “Jerry” and Lois Jacobs of Elkader, Iowa; brother, Roger Jacobs of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Dawn (Chris) Janssen of Gilmore City, Iowa; mother-in-law, Betty Geerts of Elkader, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Catherine Hafsi of Cedar Rapids and Rebecca (Chuck) Corbisier of Preston, Iowa; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren, Mark Kroemer and Carly Janssen.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
