DYERSVILLE, IOWA

John L. Meyer, 63, of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 1 – 8 p.m. on Friday, February 20 , 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to funeral services.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa.

John was born on January 25, 1963, son of Donald C. and Helen (Ament) Meyer. He married Laurie Bildstein February 13, 1988, in Dyersville, Iowa.

“Red” John was a very particular man, who took pride in chasing perfection. His heart was poured into his work, his family, his property, and his entertainment. Always a technically capable and highly proficient artisan with an eye for detail, it became his means to provide for those around him.

From bacon and eggs on the griddle, to steak and hamburger on the grill, John enjoyed cooking for his family. Through full Sundays of effort, after 70+ hour work weeks, he always ensured a neat and tidy home. His dedication to his household always shined brightest, as he loved to host large gatherings of family and friends.

John loved his entertainment and often could be found in his free time watching Westerns, reading about architecture, and listening to Classic and Psychedelic Rock. He adored nature and the outdoors, spending quality time with golf, fishing, and hunting.

“Red” John made a living for himself and his family as a contractor, with outstanding dedication to his craft of operating heavy equipment and managing job sites as a construction foreman. He spent well over a decade of his life building his dream company, C. L. Meyer Construction, with his brother Clyde. The two were absolutely inseparable and enjoyed immense success while working together.

Along with his wife and best friend, Laurie, John spent every waking moment absolutely driven to provide for his children. In the morning, the two could often be found on the porch sharing coffee, planning out the days to come. He was a staunch supporter of their kids’ goals and aspirations, always cheering them on in academics and extracurricular activities. Most recently, his compassion and innate ability to connect with the young was demonstrated as he read to and built things with his grandchild, Lilith, who lovingly refers to him as “Gumpy”.

Family and friends will remember John for his patience, his laid back and forgiving nature, his short but concise words, and his life of sacrifice to ensure his wife and children had the opportunity to chase their dreams.

Survivors include his wife, Laurie; children: Justin (Jayda Reams) Meyer and their daughter, Lilith, of Cedar Falls, Morgan Meyer of Seattle, Samantha (Seth) Jenkins of Duluth, MN; siblings: Rachele (Doug) Rickels of Middleton, WI, Pam Meyer of Dyersville, Clyde (Nanci) Meyer of Naperville, IL, Mary Meyer of Dyersville, Teresa (Matt) Bockenstedt of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Darla) Meyer of St. Germaine, WI, Geralyn Maloney of San Diego, CA, Chris Meyer of Edmond, OK, Liz McDow of Westminster, CO, Connie Alexander of Dubuque; in-laws: Linda Pape of Dyersville, Dan Bildstein of Dubuque, Marcia (Ron) Leuchs of Worthington, Connie (Terry) Gogel of Anamosa, Dianne Hess of Dyersville, Lou (Bill) McMahon of Bankston, Barb (Ken) Schulte of Luxemburg, Chuck (Carol) Bildstein of Anamosa, Duane (Laura) Bildstein of Guttenberg, Cate (Kevin) McCabe of North Aurora; and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Shirley J. Lake

DYERSVILLE, IOWA

Shirley J. Lake, 99, of Dyersville, formerly of Holy Cross, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Dyersville, Iowa, with the comfort of knowing how deeply she was loved — with many family members being able to be by her side in her final days.

Visitation will be held 2 – 7 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to funeral services.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate with Deacon Peter Binder assisting.

Shirley was born on July 15, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of Karl and Catherine (McNulty) Cummings. She married Donald H. Lake on June 20, 1953, at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Shirley was raised in Detroit and attended Catholic school. Following graduation from high school, Shirley was accepted into the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp and began her training to become a registered nurse. After passing state boards, she began working in a tuberculosis ward at a hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With a sense of adventure, Shirley and several nursing friends decided to move to Colorado and began working at Children’s Hospital in Denver. While living in Denver, Shirley met Don at the Young People’s Club, a social club for young Catholics. After dating for a year, Shirley and Don were married. The Lake household was a loud and busy place raising 8 children. Shirley returned to nursing as the children grew, working in various areas of nursing; besides hospital work, she was also a school nurse, a county health nurse, and an industrial nurse for John Deere.

When Shirley and Don retired, they combined their love of travel and history by attending Elderhostels that provide educational travel and learning programs for older adults. Shirley never let a holiday or special occasion pass without sending a card — it was simply who she was. One of her greatest joys was writing letters and cards to family and friends, her loving way of staying connected and making sure the people in her life always knew they were in her heart. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially treasured receiving a handwritten card from Grandma for every birthday, holiday, and special moment.

Survivors include her children: Mark (Jodi) Lake of Winterset, IA, Christine (Mark) Troup of Chambersburg, PA, Mary Ellen Lake of Dyersville, IA, Cindy (Dennis) Cary of Bettendorf, IA, Maureen Lake of Dubuque, IA, Lisa (Jim) Sporer of Holy Cross, IA, Brian (Rod Villalobos) Lake of Palm Springs, CA, and Douglas (Shari Hagerty) Lake of Eldridge, IA; 13 grandchildren: Erin, Jill, Andrew, Kayla, Leah, Jairus, Anna, Talia, Eric, Myia, Samantha, Danielle, and Garrett; 9 great grandchildren; sister: Mary Vasilko; in-laws: Fred Westhoff, David (Lou) Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 2015 and a great granddaughter, Freja Eichorn; siblings: James, Joyce and Judy; in-laws: Bob Lake, Doris (Bill) Sahm, Helen Westhoff, Gerry Vasilko, Bob Mahin, Wally Nation.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ellen Kennedy Center, MercyOne Dyersville and caregivers, Alyssa, Ginger and Rhonda for taking wonderful care of our mother.

Steven J. Offermann

DYERSVILLE, IOWA

Steven J. Offermann, 62, of Urbandale, Iowa and formerly of Dyersville, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, surrounded by family, after a long battle and courageous fight to beat cancer.

Visitation will be held 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday February 8, 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Burial will be held at a later date at St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville.

Steve was born April 26, 1963, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Ernie and Doris (Dunkel) Offermann. After graduating Beckman High School in 1981, he had several roles over his 35 years at Bob Brown Chevrolet, with his specialty being finance manager. He was a great mentor to numerous co-workers and friends along the way.

Steve was best known for his quick wit and humor (a heart that was too large to hold and beat with solid gold). No matter the day, he always had time for a beer and a long conversation with anyone who stopped by his garage. While Steve was an easy-going soul, there was one thing he was particularly meticulous about, his garden, yard and landscaping (keeping them mowed and manicured).

It was rare for Steve to walk around his house or neighborhood without a dog loyally following close behind, waiting to be spoiled with toys & treats. There was no place he found more happiness in than to be surrounded by his family and friends (and there were few places more joyful and full of laughter than in Steve’s company).

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Miller Offermann, daughter, Jessica (Tim) Kennedy-Sinnwell of Clive, his mother, Doris Offermann of New Vienna, siblings: Kate (Larry) Steffensmeier of Dyersville, Tammy (Ron) Ihde of Cedar Falls, Jason (Cindy) Offermann of Dyersville; in-laws: Cindy Lewis of Urbandale, Greg (Lisa) Miller of Omaha and Kenneth (Yvonne) Miller of Pewaukee. He was also survived by nieces: Lindsay (Luke) Holmes, Alesha (Warren) Bynoe, Sophie Steffensmeier, Kolbey (Ben Stecklein) Steffensmeier, Emma (Evan Haddeman) Angen, Sydnie Offermann, Kelsey Miller, Amber (Matt) Klein and nephews: Connor Offermann, Brandon (Robyn) Miller, Grant Miller and his beloved, loyal dogs: Minnie and Roxi.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernie Offermann in 2004, in-laws: Fred and Jean Miller, nephew, Austin Gerner and numerous other loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and many of his beloved dogs.

A warm and grateful thanks to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, the staff of Care Initiatives of Hospice of Manchester and for the endless love and support of family & friends.
