October 15 is National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD). NLAAD was first observed in 2003 by the Hispanic Federation and the Latino Commission on AIDSExit Disclaimer (LCOA). NLAAD is an opportunity to help address the disproportionate impact of HIV in Hispanic/Latinx communities, promote HIV testing, and stop HIV stigma.

This observance is also a community mobilization effort that helps promote effective ways to prevent, treat, and stop the transmission of HIV among Hispanic/Latinx people.

Today we recognize National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day. 👵🏾👴🏻👨🏽‍🦳

It's a crucial time to talk about a fact many don't realize: a growing number of older adults are living with HIV. Thanks to effective treatment, people with HIV are living long, healthy lives, but this brings unique challenges that we must address.

We must focus on:
✅Prevention & Testing: Age is not a protection. HIV prevention and regular testing are vital at every age. Let's break the silence and ensure older adults have the information and resources they need.
✅Access to Healthcare: Older adults with HIV often face complex health needs, managing both HIV and age-related conditions. We must advocate for integrated, age-friendly, and quality healthcare for all.
✅Ending Stigma: The double stigma of aging and HIV can lead to isolation and poor mental health. It's time to replace judgment with compassion, support, and understanding.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD. ✊🏽

Today, August 20, is Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day ( ). It’s a day to confront a hard truth: The South is facing the nation’s most severe HIV prevention crisis.

The numbers don't lie. Our region has the lowest PrEP-to-Need Ratio in the country—just 12 PrEP users for every new HIV diagnosis in 2024. This gap means the South has the greatest unmet need for HIV prevention services in the United States

PrEP is a lifesaving tool, but without equitable access, our communities remain vulnerable.

This , we remember those we've lost, educate our communities, and work to defeat this epidemic. We call on policymakers, healthcare providers, and community leaders to close this prevention gap and expand access to lifesaving resources. It's time for change. It's time for action. It's time for equity.

Remember. Educate. Defeat.

Long-Term Survivors Day is more than a moment of reflection—it’s a call to action. It's a call to listen to their stories. It's a call to acknowledge the isolation and stigma many still face. It's a call to celebrate the progress, while recognizing the work still to be done. The lives of long-term survivors are a testament to subsequent generations of PLWHA who benefit from their sacrifices to find better treatment and services.
