Chronically early ovulation is probably the most overlooked fertility metric.
Almost no one talks about this.
Most fertility advice focuses on whether you ovulate.
But WHEN you ovulate matters just as much.
A healthy follicular phase (the first half of your cycle) usually lasts 12–16 days. That time allows a group of follicles to develop, compete, and mature before one becomes dominant and releases the egg.
When ovulation happens too early — day 8, 9, or 10th.
The follicle may release an egg that simply was not mature enough to effectively complete the process of fertilization AND implantation.
I see this pattern in clinic all the time.
So what is happening here? Why are you ovulating early in the cycle?
The most common reason, I find, is heat. That’s the Chinese Medicine way to say inflammation; low level inflammation throughout the body.
What should you do about it?
Well of course, get acupuncture and find a skilled herbalist.
But if that’s not possible, here are some easy ways to lower inflammation:
1️⃣ Cut alcohol (during follicular phase especially)
2️⃣ Add infrared sauna a few times a week. This helps the body release heat, which will lower inflammation.
3️⃣ Start an anti-inflammatory diet
4️⃣ Get acupuncture
5️⃣ Take Prescribed herbal medicine to lower inflammation and improve egg quality
6️⃣ improve your sleep
7️⃣ Increase your protein intake, to help stabilize blood sugar.
From a Chinese medicine perspective, early ovulation is frequently a sign that blood and yin are not sufficient to nourish the follicle during the follicular phase, so the body rushes the process.
The good news is that this pattern can often improve when the first half of the cycle is properly supported.
In clinic, I often see ovulation move from day 9 or 10 → to day 12, 13, or 14 after a few months of treatment.
And that shift can make a major difference in fertility outcomes.
So if you’ve been told everything is “normal” because you ovulate…
…but you consistently ovulate very early every cycle…
that may be a piece of the puzzle that hasn’t been addressed yet.
