The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers

The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers The pre-eminent organization of Multiple Sclerosis health care providers improving the lives of those affected by multiple sclerosis.

Organized in 1986 under the direction of neurologists interested in the clinical care of multiple sclerosis, CMSC has grown to become a multi-disciplinary organization providing a team approach to MS care and a network for all health care professionals and others specializing in the care of persons with MS. Since 1986, the CMSC has grown rapidly. We now have over 200 member centers in the United States, Canada, and Europe, representing over 4,000 health care professionals worldwide who provide care for more than 150,000 individuals with multiple sclerosis. Today, CMSC provides leadership in clinical research and education; develops vehicles to share information and knowledge among members; disseminates information to the health care community and to persons affected by Multiple Sclerosis; and develops and implements mechanisms to influence health care delivery. Through its CMSC North American Research Committee on Multiple Sclerosis (CMSC-NARCOMS) based at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), CMSC-NARCOMS maintains a patient registry, web site, expert forum and research registry to promote Multiple Sclerosis research. We have developed an online journal, the International Journal of Multiple Sclerosis Care (IJMSC) to promote multi-disciplinary approaches to treating persons with Multiple Sclerosis. These projects and others are just a few of the CMSC's activities. To learn about all of our projects, activities, and initiatives, you should join now and become a member of the CMSC team.

Applications open for 2026 Rachel Horne Prize recognizing leadership in women’s MS research

Submissions now open for prestigious US$40,000 international award

London, UK, 8 March 2026 - Applications are now open for the 2026 Rachel Horne Prize for Women’s Research in MS, the international award recognizing an established female scientist whose research has significantly advanced care for women living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The annual prize awards US$40,000 to a senior researcher demonstrating exceptional scientific contribution, leadership, and impact in women-focused MS research.

Applicants must hold an MD or PhD degree and have worked for more than 15 years at Assistant Professor level and, at the time of the application, hold the title of Associate Professor or Professor. Submissions should demonstrate the applicant’s leadership in women’s health research in MS and their measurable contribution to improving patient outcomes.

“Recognising the outstanding work senior women neuroscientists make to health-related research in MS and leadership remains imperative,” said Rachel Horne, founder of the prize. “It is a privilege to support and honour those who have dedicated their professional lives to researching issues faced by women with MS.”

Applications require a two-page submission in English outlining:
• the applicant’s career context
• why they should be considered for the 2026 Prize
• their key accomplishments
• their vision for how the field is evolving
• the next steps in MS research

The recipient will record a special episode for the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) Podcast and present their work through global remote meetings and/or in-person events organized by International Women in MS (iWiMS).

The award will be presented at the 10th Joint ACTRIMS-ECTRIMS Meeting in Toronto, Canada, in October 2026. Applications close on 12 June 2026. Full eligibility criteria and application details are available via the online application portal at www.rachelhorneprize.com.

At the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC), we are committed to improving the lives of people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). This month, we shine a light on the strength of the MS community — individuals living with MS, their families, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers — all working together to advance care, research, and education.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often unpredictable neurological disease that affects nearly 1 million people in the United States. While there is still no cure, progress in comprehensive care, research, and symptom management continues to improve outcomes and quality of life.

The CMSC is dedicated to:
🔹 Advancing multidisciplinary MS care
🔹 Supporting innovative research
🔹 Providing continuing education for healthcare professionals
🔹 Empowering people living with MS through knowledge and resources

Join us in raising awareness, sharing reliable information, and supporting those impacted by MS. Together, we can foster hope, drive progress, and move closer to a world free of MS.
